It's my dad's funeral in the morning.
After being in hospital since falling and breaking his hip in October he finally succumbed to liver cancer just before New Year.
He had a hip replacement, the op went well and healed nicely, he was in a convalescent hospital when took a turn for the worse before Xmas and was readmitted to an acute ward.
I'd like to thank my family for being so understanding over the last few months, especially for keeping the news of Dad's death from their sister until she got back from holiday.

I'm sorry to hear that, Nanny. I was going to offer my condolences in a PM reply, but thought it's best to do it publicly.

A death is always sad, although hopefully he didn't suffer too much from the cancer. Sad

I'm sorry for your loss. My grandfather passed on New Years Day. He had been ill for quite some time as well.

If you are the praying type, that helps ease the pain somewhat.

Maybe his "hymn " the Red Flag will get an airing.
Thank you, Irish, the kids have promised to keep me in tow.
His true friends, a group thats been around since High School days, are organising the eulogy and so on.
The fairweather friends annoy me so much, they turn up at the funeral in the hope of a ham sandwich and free dram but didn't visit when he was in hospital.

My condolences Nanny. I became an orphan just over a year ago. It is a strange feeling.

My condolences to Nanny and tastysnack. I lost my father too and as one goes on with his live there's just something missing. There's a hole that can't be filled.

At this time of year its double sadness all round, having lost both of my parents, my condolences to you all.

The best healing is to think of the good, funny and fun times you have had in the past, but Nanny you will not be able to do that until your dear dad has been laid to rest. amen.

Nanny, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. There's never a time or an age when it's ok to lose a parent, regardless of how old they are or how old you are. I wish you peace and that you can find comfort in your family, especially your children.
My condolences to all who have lost a parent.

Sorry to hear about your loss. After my mom died I had a friend tell me that you don't really think of yourself as a "grownup" until you lose both your parents. I know what she means.

It's been just over ten years since my mother pass away, and the year before that my father died - both from cancer.

I remember the bizarre way I felt during the months after Mun died - almost as if I was watching myself go through the daily routine.

Fortunately I had close siblings, supportive friiends and kind colleagues to help me through.

Nanny, Tastysnack - my thoughts are with you.

Deepest condolences, it is never an easy thing losing a parent, no matter your age. Be strong, and always chersish the great memories I'm sure you have, they will help you get through the times you feel down the most.

My sympathy to both Nanny and Tastysnack.My orphaning happened about 2 years ago when my mother passed.My father had gone 8 years earlier.The holiday season is the worst,coupled with the fact that my birthday is in December,and the late November Thanksgiving holiday here in the states.
I hope the best for both of you,it is fresh enough for me it is still a real bitch.
