^^^ I'm going with tradition. In my dining room we have:

A Dining Table, 6 chairs, 2 display units, a stereo system. The table is laid ready for a dinner party we are holding this evening.

There are no cats, plants (dead or alive), no teenagers (asleep or awake), no empty wine bottles (scratched or unscratched) and no pizza.

However, by midnight I expect there to be 3 or 4 empty wine bottles. Laughing

On Hogmanay we had 6 teenage boys, mostly awake, a table laid with a buffet and a wary cat.
They ate everything, including the celery!

and weirder still they didn't touch the drinks cupboard
- much to hubby's disgust, his comment was "Damn teenagers can't trust them! In my day you'd drink whatever you got your hands on when the parents backs were turned. So we're still stuck with that bottle of raki"? Rolling Eyes

Getting back on topic...
Around 1972, one of my "farm" aunt and uncles added on to their farm house and put an indoor toilet in. My aunt would not let anyone use the new toilet for at least 6 months! Finally, when my uncle had reached maximum frustration, she offered that the toilet could be used to pee. My uncle apparently went straight away to his tractor, knocked the outhouse down, went into the bathroom and "christened" the new toilet!

I'm not "precious" about my belonings, I can't be with 4 offspring, a cat, a house rabbit and pet rats around.
My Doc martens on the other hand, there's some I can't bear to wear as it will crease them Rolling Eyes
