Need some advice from the computer experts.
My motherboard is a Micro-Star 7253 and later this year i want to upgrade to Windows 7, (once the bugs have been sorted), would my present board be able to run Windows 7.
It needs a new Display card and memory update.
But would it be better to buy a new motherboard, but which one. |

If it's running Vista, it should be able to run Windows 7. Microsoft has a utility which will tell you here |

I have just installed Win 7 on XP Pro my graphics card failed the compatability test but as it was on a spare machine I tried it
The Upgrade went on great and it is running smooth
If you do this you will need to backup all your programs etc (or reinstall)
If you were updating from Vista it goes on over the top
IMO its a far better OS than Vista
Id recommend it !!!! |

Make sure it has at least 2 Gb of memory. Even when the graphics card is not compatible with W7, it will probably still install fine, but you'll have to do without the goodies like (semi-)transparent windows and such. Who needs that anyway.
If you decide to change the motherboard, make sure it's Vista (or W7) compatible, and you'll be fine.
It all depends what you want to do with your computer. Are you a die-hard gamer, or do you just use it for baiting and posting at 429eater?
For type- and surf work you can do with a cheap everything-including-graphics-on-board MB; for graphic-intensive games you may need a decent (expensive) separate graphics card. |

Not really needed on both my machines I have only 1GB memory,
and W7 is running smoothly
Obviously the more the merrier but it does depend on what you want the PC to do |

Upgraded from VISTA to Windows7 and loves it
BUT
IE8 is a pain, typing emails is useless, blamed the keyboard but is fine with Firefox and Opera, so type email in OO first and C&P to email!!
Have also noticed C&P won't work for emails in Google Chrome.
Anybody else had thes problems? |

^^^What a timely reminder as i will collect my upgraded computer today, i have used the full version of Windows 7 on my upgrade.
Do you think that there might still some files from Vista, hanging around and messing with your e-mail's, I'm no expert so can not help you. |

Hi Fo'andles don't think that is the problem, understyand that IE8 is not shipped with Windows7 new install!
Computers are strange things, and have to workd round the foibles until some genius finds the solution. Hint hint! |

My advice is to only use Internet Explorer once on a computer - to download FireFox
I installed Windows 7 over the Vista install that came with my desktop and I think it is great. As was said before, use the compatibility tool to test whether or not your system can handle it as is. |
