OMG...
What an amazing experience!
If you only see one movie this year blah blah blah
I rarely see a movie in the theatre and almost never see this type of movie. Usually I stick to comedies, unless it's Michael Moore or something along those lines.
Avatar was definitely the best movie that I've ever seen. Visually incredible, pretty decent plot and turns out to be a beautiful love story!
Well worth $15.(American). I saw the deluxe 3D version and can't imagine that the Imax one could be any better. It was sold out for the next few days.
I heard that it cost 300 million $ to make but I must say that it didn't look to me that they spent more than 295... Rolling Eyes

I've seen Avatar, albeit in 2D only, and while much of the plot had some familiar elements, the appearance and texture of it was, in a word, breathtaking.

The forests of Pandora were lush and beautiful creations filled with bizarre yet credible creatures, and the futuristic human military hardware was (to this gun nerd/military buff at least) totally believable.

I saw it in 3D, booked out in a lot of places in Sydney.

The setting/landscape of Pandora makes up for pretty much any plot short-comings. Very Happy

Seen two times the IMAX version. Totally worthed happy crowd

The plot have huge holes in it, but I'm guessing that they had to make the movie at manageable length not to give headaches to 3d viewers.

Is it kid friendly? My 8 year old has been begging to be taken to the movies lately.

The Sherlock Holmes flick is off the radar because it is totally against (from what the previews show) the traditional Holmes, well that and semi nude scenes.

@badgerbait - it's not very kid-friendly I'm affraid - decent amount of killing, not much gore though plus one sexual scene ( with tall blue guys )

@Craig007 think of it as the story for conquring the West in USA.. the story is the same.

Badgerbait- Haban1336 is correct. It's got a lot of violence and overall is way too intense for a child. I was happy to not have had my 11 year old come along.
Craig007- I also dislike sci-fi movies and books. Initially when my husband mentioned going to see Avatar, on a date, I wasn't very interested. I decided to go with an open mind and see what all the fuss was about. I was blown away immediately by the beauty and detail. It was like seeing Star Wars for the 1st time way back when. Definitely something to see on the big screen.

I haven't seen it but probably will. My wife is a sci-fi buff.

I thought David Letterman had an interesting take. To paraphrase, James Cameron managed to create a process to project images onto a screen and make them look like real live people! Surprised

I'm a shameless pirate in a backward country. Followed all the hype, curious about it, but I'll see it when it leaches on the net. I can't be bothered to travel 60 Km and pay a quarter of my weekly wage to see it, no matter the rumours about how good it is.
