Hello everyone.
My name's Jacob Fingerling, After reading Shiver's letters archive I decided it could be fun to get into baiting too. I registered a new hotmail acount, signed a few guestbooks and presto: over thirty 419-mails in two days.
To start I thought I would just copy Shivers baits, slightly modified of course:
-Church of the tattood saint (Followers of Almighty God: F.A.G.)
-Derek Trotter fine arts. (Fingerling Fine Arts)
One question came to mind though, and I thought that maybe someone could help me with this. Are there any fake sites that baiters can use to look more credible to 419-scammers? You'd think so, as the scammers themselves use fake sites too.
Anyone? |

'Some fake sites' is a bit vague, but yes we certainly do for different things, all set up by members here, and the list changes over time. They're not all Orange only, although that does extend your list a lot. What were you thinking of? Anything in particular? There are wu and mg receipt generators, gps tracking applications, fake couriers, mtcn securing sites etc. |

As a newcomer, I suspect that are a lot of tried and true "models" with which one can bait a scammer like the foreign art or church bait.
I was curious if there where any "generic church" or "generic art importation" sites designed to assist a baiter in creating the illusion of being genuine. You know, just to give your 419er a link.
It wouldn't have to be anymore than a frontpage with a nice vague logo, a multi interpretable name and maybe a list "employers" that one such as ourselves can put their fake name and email on.
Like I said, just curious. |

I don't really know of any sites myself (they do exist, though - somewhere) so I can't help you with that, but I do have two pieces of advice for you, if you'll permit.
Firstly, there's no need to follow along the format of an established and published bait. Although this is certainly one way to get your feet wet, you'll develop your lad skills quicker by trying to play it by ear. Doing so is less likely to provide too many successes early on, of course, but you'll gain many invaluable skills and experiences. Those of us who are self-taught learned by trial and error, and I'll say straight up that it's the best way, even if it is the most difficult. Just sayin'.
The other thing is the sites. They really do do wonders for your credibility. Assuming it's fairly well done, or even just moderately so, the lads will eat it up like fat kids. BUT they are not necessary for baits. I've never used sites myself, and rarely have problems with lad faith.

Thank you for your replies. I'm amazed at how quickly you're helped at this forum. I will take your words into consideration (really, i will) but I spent the last hour creating this website: fingerling.webs.com and I would like your opinion on it. It's my first website ever.
It would be a shame not to use it.
I'll definitively try to get some "no-nonsense" baits as practice. Also, i've been reading the forum. Really interesting. |

Just a side note for you - trying to replicate one of Shiver's baits (or anyone elses) will likely lead in frustration - all scammers are different, all baits are different, and all those brilliant headline-grabbing baits you see were the result of lots of straight baits where the baiter cut their teeth and honed their skills! Only a few % of baits ever produce safaris and trophies, so if you're counting on one it may lead to disillusionment!
Instead maybe start gently, play it by ear, appear compliant and bait straight whilst you get a feel for it - it's like fishing: you don't just throw a line in the water and pull like hell at the first nibble, you take time to exhaust your prey! All great baiters started out (and still mostly do) straight baits, only the odd special scammer ever obliges with carvings and safaris |

Welcome Fingerling, is that one or two fingers?
I think you need your own style to be comfortable, and don't get too ambitious too soon. Also remember your fellow baiters who might join you to add credence to your work. They don't bite, well no hard.
