Eldest daughter's boyfriend works quite a distance from home. On Thursday, the snow started coming down near where they live. Daughter rang b/f to tell him he needed to think about coming home early to avoid the weather.

So, he left work, went to the car park to collect his car & noticed a grating sound as he drove away. Stopped & got out to have a look - 'Funny, the car seems to be leaning to one side'. Nearside suspension had collapsed! Shocked

Luckily, he's a member of a breakdown organization. 'Certainly sir, we can send a recovery vehicle out to pick you up - it'll be about 3 hours' Shocked Shocked

So eventually, the recovery truck arrived & loaded his car on the back. Just as they were about to set off, a car ran into the back of the recovery truck at some speed (allegedly). Shocked Shocked

The driver of the other car had apparently been drinking, so the police were called. As the police were taking statements, there was a crunch as 2 cars on the opposite side of the road collided whilst 'rubbernecking'.

Eventually, another recovery truck arrived & took him & his car home. Arrived back at around 11:30pm!

Following day, he woke up with a sore neck & back. Doc says he's got whiplash. Sad

I know you shouldn't laugh, but Laughing

Agreed.

I heard from this really good lawyer over in Nigeria actually, maybe I could get him to advise you...

Wow, that truly rates as a sucky day. I am curious to know what caused the initial suspension failure! Hopefully age! It is a plus, however, that all are still above ground! Seat belts?

^^^ He's not had the car back for long, after repairs following a previous accident! I'm not sure how much damage there is this time - the recovery truck took the brunt of the impact, but I believe the car's suffered at least some damage. Whether it's enough to get it written off, I don't know.

When the other car hit, he was sitting in the cab of the breakdown truck - they hadn't set off, so I don't know whether he was wearing his seat belt or not.

Darn.. And I was thinking I was unlucky when half of the Dutch railroad network stopped working (last thursday) due to the first flakes of snow, making me travel nearly six hours over a distance that would normally take just under an hour... In stead of trains, which didn't run at all anymore, I had to take buses, which ran irregularly, making me have to wait up to 45 minutes at one point (outside, in wind+snow on shoes that aren't thick enough to keep my toes from going very cold).
