What annoys me as well is the number of banks, building societies and other "responsible lenders" who'll let someone get themselves into this mess. Especially given the current climate. Mad

Oh that is just horrible, may the poor gentleman rest in peace. My prayers go out to his family.

I know some of you think differently, but this is why I have no personal qualms about sending these scammer pigs into harm's way.

This is sad proof that scammers are total parasites - they won't stop until the host dies. Evil or Very Mad

Nick, the numbers go higher than that. Much higher. I've had experience at SWs with $250,000 victims.

Very sad. I've got the feeling romance scammers have the best chanche of squeesing every last bit out of their victims. This week i'm trying my luck with a romance scammer, no response sofar. Mad

it is a shame we don't know the scammer's contact details, to let him/her know what they did.

Do you think that the scammer will be ashamed and will stop scamming ? I think not. It will just give him something to brag about.

Now if we have his contact details, there are other things that we could do... Mass bait and a lot of safaris come to mind ( esp. to Darfur )

^^ i don't know what they would think, but you are probably right.
however, i imagine that there is a spectrum of personalities in the scamming game, just like every other walk of life,
and some might feel ashamed / guilty if confronted with the consequences of what they did.

if the scammer's contact details were known, i'd like to think that the police in both countries might co-operate to catch the responsibles,
but that is probably wishful thinking as well.

failing that, darfur seems like a suitable destination for them.

But there are so many ways to inflict pain.
Is contacting the family through the newspaper, Facebook, whatever and explaining scam-baiting and it's possibilites an option?

It is sad that the scammer - even if he knew the consequences of the scam - would probably not turn a hair. From what I have observed, scammers don't appear to think of their victims as PEOPLE. To scammers, victims are simply sources of money, without any real existence. Sad

I think that applies to just about all criminals. If they were able to appreciate how they would feel if subjected to the crime they were committing, they would never do it.

i agree it would be totally wrong to contact the family.
however, what about contacting the police who were involved in this case?
the article mentions Det Ch Insp Danny Snee of British Transport Police and their contact details are [here]

i think if we contact the police offering to give the scammer a hard time, we will [rightly] get the brush-off.
but if we offer to help the police to trace the criminal, then we might be taken up on the offer.
for example, perhaps someone here is already baiting the same scammer?
