Can I get this guy arrested?

I have a guy set up to meet me at the Atlanta airport to collect his "fees" and to give me my $7.5 million. Obviously, I won't be there but is there any chance of getting the local authorities to pick this guy up? I can't go to Atlanta to file charges or be involved in legal proceedings but I would be happy to give the local or state police his bank account info, address, and various corporation names involved in this scam. Any body had any experience getting scammers arrested in the US?

No offense, but your lad ain't coming to Atlanta.

EDIT: Reading that back, I can see how my comment may sound somewhat incendiary and very dismissive. So let me expand. The lads have been using the story of a diplomat waiting at a US airport for quite a while. They bring this up in their opening letters and use it as their primary piece of "proof" that they're legit. Vics may think, "Well, it can't be a scam since he'd just get arrested at the airport". Not so, since the lad isn't even on the same continent. Atlanta is the most popular location, followed by New York.

Just "go" to Atlanta. Of course you will have missed your lad at the airport and gone straight to your hotel. Of course, not knowing Atlanta, you unwittingly gave him the wrong Motel 6 (or whatever chain with multiple locations in Atlanta). If he has a friend who is really there, you'll have him running around. If there's nobody there, you "get back on the plane and return home".

PS. Don't worry about Nick, he's usually cranky this time of the year.

I am convinced he is in Atlanta and I believe he will come because I am convinced he is local to that area. I have his bank account info including the name and address of the LLC company that owns the account. This company is registered with the State of Georgia at the same address as the bank account owner address he gave me. He also gave me the bank branch office of the account number. That also checks out correctly and is in Atlanta within a few miles of the owner address. He has called my k7.net phone number several times from the 404 (Atlanta) area code. This character was introduced a month or so into to the bait by the original scammer. The original scammer, judging by his language, is clearly African. The new guy is American.

When you open an e-mail, you'll see in the top-right corner of the letter, "Reply", next to which is a downward-pointing arrow. Click on the arrow and a drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Show Original" near the bottom of the list, and you've got your header.

The person in Atlanta is either a North American based lad (there a fair number of them in places like Atlanta, New York, Houston, Toronto among others) or as Nick said, an unwitting mule who will collect your money and send it to the lad via western union.

There actually are a fair amount of lads based in Atlanta. For some reason it is one of the most popular US destinations for lads.

As for getting him arrested? Highly doubtful. Unless you actually pay him money, there's no crime as there's no victim. Chances are that the police won't even bother filing a report.

This is the only one I have found that doesn't have the "Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry" tag at the bottom. This is the one where he sent me the bank account info as well as two bogus IDs (a passport and a North Carolina driver's license - which, BTW, had two different dates of birth - OOPS!)

Can you 'fix the blow-out' please?

'Blowout' is the effect where the page becomes very wide and people have to scroll horizontally to read everything.
It is caused by those long lines without spaces in the email headers.
You can fix it by putting some spaces in those lines (like every 20 or 30 characters or so) or removing them altogether.

On what charges? Even if they do somehow arrest him (hello lawsuit), the case is non-existent. He'll be out before the arresting officer's shift ends and never see the inside of a courtroom. If you really want to try, you can contact Atlanta PD and see if they will do anything about it, but the chances are it will go into the "some day" pile.

EDIT: On a side note, if you're interested in tracing lads through their IP addresses yourself, the easiest way is to dump them into Apelord and let it do the work. Quick and easy. Very Happy

As gratifying as it would be to get him arrested, since he is in the US, as others have mentioned no crime has yet been committed. I'm assuming you don't want to actually go meet him and give him money in order to establish an actual theft. Wink

Barring that, there's no grounds for police to do a thing.

I'm not a cop or an attorney but I would think attempt to defraud is a criminal act. That could be demonstrated rather easily.

Demonstrated how? If bullshitting people on the internet was a crime, then we'd all need to be in hiding.

The only way that it could be used for a case is if Atlanta PD do a UC sting and hand the guy the money. Now, unless Atlanta is a sleepy, crime-free utopia (which I'm told it is very far from), their police would have better things to spend their time and resources on.

I mean no disrespect to victims of 419 with the above statement, but the reality is that advance fee fraud is one of the least worst crimes out there. But who knows, maybe they have a fraud division that's dedicated to this kind of thing. The only way you're going to find out for certain whether they'll do anything about this is to speak to them directly.

You're probably right, Nick. Frankly, as despicable as these scammers are, I'd rather see the cops spend their time chasing down violent criminals instead of going after criminals who could be put out of business if more people had a little more common sense.

BTW, my boy-toy isn't buying the safari to meet my brother-in-law in Savannah (at least, not yet) - even when I offered him additional money to make the trip:
