The patient is an Amana Model ACO1840AC.

Symptoms: All the lights, bells, whistles, turning platter, timer are fine, but the magic thingiee inside that actually makes cold things hot, is dead.

I actually think there is a miniature Buddhist Monk that lives in there and meditates over the food when the machine is activated, thus accelerating the movement of the food molecules and heating everything. I searched Craigslist for a replacement Monk, but sadly, I couldn't find one small enough to fit inside. After some research I discovered that the Monk has to be from the Magnetron tribe, a small, and often persecuted, community of Monks.

If anyone has any information on how to revive a really small Magnetron Monk, please reply.

^^Thanks, I also found that, but I need to diagnose what part is defective. It could be some sort of thermal fuse or diode (cheap) or the entire high voltage side of the unit (expensive, and probably not worth replacing).

I may have not been clear in my OP, I'm not sure if the magnetron is the culprit.

The bride wants an answer, and I am just trying to buy some time.

Edit: I've never seen something that looks as cool as it's name. I present to you, Magnetron.

Unless your microwave is a particularly awesome one, it'll almost certainly be cheaper to buy a completely new machine - they start cheap cheap cheap, and once you factor in the fitting/messing around/safety aspects, you may just want to upgrade/replace.

I hate to see a mostly functional machine go to heaven just because of one worn part, but it may be one of those times when it makes sense.

@ Pastor Frank. Are you sure it hasn't slipped into Store Demo mode while the Monk was sleeping?

Has a similar problem at one time. The screen was telling me everything was working normally but we kinda rebooted it anyway and our Monk has been perfectly servicable since.

At five years old, it is old enough to be retired. I shudder to think what an uninitated person can achive in that mess of high voltage high power wiring.
