Those of us in Blighty will already be familiar (probably) with the story, those of you not: basically a TV production takes a load of B and C list types out into the jungle and half starves them and puts them through stupid and humiliating exercises where the public then votes to keep them on the show.

Anyway, two of the "celebs" have been charged with animal cruelty in Australia for killing and eating a rat whilst in the jungle, because they were hungry...

You couldn't make it up.

But they ate it for Pete's sake, the RSPCA types would have you believe it was killed as part of a 'performance'. Its demise, or its eating wasn't actually shown anyway.

What about all the 'jungle critters' that got eaten alive? Wasn't that cruelty as part as a performance? What about sending that overboobed bimbo to do 7 trials on the trot? Wasn't that cruel? (although funny)

If it was shown as proveably cruel to kill stuff you eat, the vegetablists would have a field day. What about Masterchef, or Hugh Whatsit-Whittingstall, who eats half the countryside?

Here in the US we have a similar show called "Survivor." Not being a fan of such things, I've never watched it. Razz

I have met a great guy, however, who broke his neck training for "Survivor." He's a quadraplegic now, with minimal use of his arms (enough to drive a hand-control car). He's also a stand-up comedian. (One of his jokes, BTW.) Even though he's got a wonderful sense of humor and a zest for life (he just got married to a woman who has two above-knee amputations - and who is a runner), I'm afraid his positive attitude would have been to his disadvantage on the show.

Hit a cane toad (noxious pest) with a golf club and you could go to prison. RSPCA is trying now to make it mandatory to walk your dog.
Do they make a noise about sodium monofluoroacetate which is deadly to humans but is used to kill wild dogs, dingos and other creatures? It is dropped indiscriminately and leaves the animal/bird to die in agony over some days.
This rat(noxious pest) episode shows that the RSPCA can make itself look ridiculous. Common sense isn't common Shocked

The RSPCA has done good work with neglected animals, but no one will take it seriously if it goes down the PETA path.

Mostly, I'm just sick of the ridiculous amounts of human interest shows; RSPCA Animal Emergency, Border Security, Highway Patrol, Bondi Rescue, Bondi Vet Rescue, Amazing Medical Stories, Destroyed in Seconds, The Force: Behind the Lines, Triple Zero Heroes, Recruits, Surf Patrol, Find My Family, World's Strictest Parents....

That is off the top of my head. Most of those are on one channel.

Yep!
You have to cook prawns, lobsters, crabs etc in cold water, heating it very slowly so as to render the crustacean unconscious. Cane toads must be collected in plastic bags and placed in a freezer to kill them.
When you see the rat and mice plagues out West and the killing frenzy of both man and dog to beat the menace using sticks and anything else handy, why no prosecutions???!!!

I don't get it. They're actually making the animals die slowly and extending their death battle. If I had to be killed, i sure prefer to get my head shot to pieces over being put in a freezer and choke/freeze to death. Make the pain as short as possible. I can't imagine anyone choosing slow and painful death over a quick one. But that's just my idea of the whole thing.
