I'm a member of TWOC forum and some of the members who've had there car stolen are getting these emails, I haven't had one myself but just sent an email to the address given to see where it leads.

I'm going to try and scam this guy so will let you know what happens

Am almost tempted to write back and ask about "my" car. which would be odd, since in RL I don't actually drive Laughing

That reads to me like an AFF, but if it is that well targeted the lad may know who he emailed, so baitiing it may be tricky. It doesn't hurt to try though.

I suggest you put a KEEP OFF notice on this at least until your bait is running, because a load of baiters jumping in is likely to scare him off.

The way this seems to be going is that the criminal who stole the car has left money in it, but this melo doesn't know about it. Melo will ask for a fee to release the car, say £500, and since the victim knows there's £3500 under the passenger seat, they will be willing to pay.

Of course, the scammer doesn't have the car and hasn't put £3500 in it. Antoaali and melo are the same person. He has just harvested the names and email addresses of theft victims from the forum.

If it'sa TWOC forum, I'm guessing it's for people whose cars were Taken WithOut Consent (ie stolen by scrotes), so everyone there is there because they were TWOCced, so this format may be successful.

As long as you create a whole new identity using a gmail email address etc for security, and don't give any identifiable details (they should be able to provide them - they contacted you, right?), then bait away.

It's a variant of a recovery scam, with a dash of hit lad for spice and threat, and very nicely targetted. Bastards.

I'm using a hushmail address and yeah its of a "taken without owners consent" forum, as i said its not been sent to me personally it was a mass PM from the mods warning everybody. I'll await the reply Very Happy

Bait away, and cause as much trauma and suffering as you can.

Once you're starting to play with them, maybe remove the Keep Off, I'm sure some people here would like to try screwing with a bunch of (real or fake) TWOCcers.

i know someone whose vehicle was stolen and it had some personal effects inside.
then she got a call from the "police" telling her where to pick her car up.
so she turned up and the address was not a police station.
so she called the number she was given and asked for more info and was given the runaround.
and when she got back home her house had been burgled. Sad

however, there was no mention of money, so this is clearly a different type of criminal enterprise.

what are the ip addresses in his email? it would be good to know if he really is in the uk.

Thats what i was trying to find out myself, I emailed this yesterday but the email got bounced back at me, so no idea why they've given a duff email address,

i hope you didn't email [email protected] ?
the lad's poor punctuation has added an erroneous field to a valid address [email protected]

about the ip address of the sender, that information is held in the header of the email he sent to you -
you don't have to reply in order to access that info.
just tell us what email service you use and we can tell you how to trace his location.

r2d2 this was sent via PM off another forum so no directly to my email address, i'm using hushmail to try and bait him and no i never put the .he on the end, Just tried again and it tells me

It would appear that someone got the original email addy shut down. This is a good example of why we don't encourage that around here.

The lad has probably opened another email addy (a matter of five minutes' work or less), and is targetting more would-be victims. I hope everyone on that site that got the same email you did heeded the warning and will ignore any further attempts, no matter what email addy they come from.

Since i joined here i get to see more and more of these scams from different forums i'm a member of and the forums are related in anyway, these scammers are very very busy ppl so i can fully understand why you guys do it now

LOL... in the UK we used to have an 80's TV series called 'Minder'. it's quite heavily parodied here as well.
I might e-mail him under the name "Terry McCann" and ask him if he wants me to "write the theme tune .. sing the theme tune"
