I am trying to keep all my scambaiting fun legal. I am thinking about setting up a fake video company website, and then getting the scammers to make videos for me in the hopes of getting my money. Is this legal for me to offer them money for their videos and then never deliver?

You can offer money for *suitable* videos, of high enough quality, but I suspect the results will never be quite right...

^^ What manbiteslion said. Think about it - many agencies ask you to send in a demo before they'll call you in for an audition. This is, of course, more true with audio performances, but with all the video albums being produced nowadays, it should be only logical that a producer would want to see the goods before producing them.

You wouldn't actually be paying them for the vidwo, after all. You'd be using the videos to see if they're good enough to bring the lad over to wherever your character is in order to produce a massively popular film/DVD/whatever. The "payoff" is a step removed, but you may be surprised how many lads want desperately to be famous.

Somehow I don't imagine the lads reporting you to their local police. And even if they do, there's just about no way it will ever reach you. Relax and have fun. Wink

This is really how the music and book publishing industries work. Unless you are lucky enough to have an agent with a lot of connections you have to shop your work around with no guarantees. What side of the moral line do you suppose Shiver Metimbers was on when he got that lad to make that famous Dead Parrot Sketch video?

At worst, I would have thought it breach of contract, which is a civil matter not criminal. So the police wouldn't be interested, and the scammer would have to sue. An expensive matter, specially as two legal jurisdictions are involved. So nothing to worry about. I really can't see a lad going to the police or suing someone.
I'm not a lawyer though, so I might be talking total nonsense.

I always offer lads payment of "anything up to" a certain amount (say $10,000). The money hungry lad tends to focus on the later, ignoring the "anything up to" bit, thus missing the fact that he could ( Wink

) end up being paid cock all ie- $0,000 to £10,000 Laughing

As a multimedia student I had to check out your site, and for the record I LOVE it! Your clients are "special", something my clients still aim to do (since they don't actually exist yet)
