I totally forgot to tell you about my Jury services in 1997..I was lucky enough to be the foreman who sat on the trial of a certain Nigerian chap.
Back in 1985 he had been arrested in England for trying to cash stolen travellers cheques and bank cheques that he had filled in himself. Now, I'm not 100% of the British banking system back then (I was just leaving school and such things were above my dumb juvenile brain..But some how he was depositing the cheques into an account on the Thursday and withdrawing on them on a Tuesday, which you certainly cant get away with now. (is any of this sounding familiar?).
Well, the police caught up with him, arrested him and decided that bail was a good thing, the berks. So, he absconds and goes back to Nigeria (Why didn't they take his passport away from him? Did he have a fake back up one?)
Anyway, 11 years later in 1996 he arrives back and this time the police get him and magistrate decides bail isn't such a good idea this time.
Then it comes to February 1997, his trial. He's up on three counts of fraud and guess who's selected as foreman of the jury? Yep, me
Believe you me, it's a rush to stand up and say guilty three times
Oh yes, three little words put a man down for being a thieving git. He got 2 and a half years which had to be served in full.
But the funniest part of it is that the prosecution revealed, after the trial, that he had been shoplifting for women's underwear as well. All I hoped was that he had fun while serving time at her majesty's leisure
But what I would like to know is, is it possible that he's out there somewhere, on the internet, trying to scam? I hope not, but if he is he'll get his soon enough. |

Sure there is. These guys very rarely stop. There are only a couple of lads who have beaten themselves half to death in a bait who have actually stopped scamming. And sometimes, what they go through with us could be worse than a British jail. |

On the contrary, he's been punished, learnt his lesson and has become a model citizen since then. |

What annoys me is that he was imprisoned at the expense of the British tax payer. So in a sense he was doing a whole new kind of scam by having a sort of free housing. |

Bridge building in Cumbria is too good for them!
(American jail rock breakers / chain gangs / road crews spring readily to mind as does cruelty to humans / torture and not forgetting greed and corruption)
But what do you do? |

Too bad what they once did is not what they do anymore. Its been found that letting them sit and watch TV all day is cheaper than paying for the supervision to work them. |

Too bad you all couldn't ship him to Maracopa County Arizona to serve his time with Sheriff Joe Arpaio... |

I love Sheriff Joe! The sad thing is, he's become a legend mainly because he's doing what he's supposed to be doing. |

Too true. He's always being investigated because special interest groups don't want the law enforced. It interferes with their agendas. These groups know they can't unseat him in an election(they try every time)so they dig for dirt and can't seem to find any. |
