Do you shop on Black Friday? Or, do you bury your head in the sand and avoid all the craziness? Why? Why not?

My wife and daughter will be out shopping at 6 AM next Friday. I will not set foot in a mall between now and Jan 2. |

I went 5 years without stepping into a mall until one day in Paris I got off a train and found myself in one. This summer I needed to recharge the wallet and had to step into a building in San Jose, CR and ended an attempt to beat 5 years. The building turned out to be a mall. I'm working on the next streak. I had the manufacturer of my car write me a letter asking me to bring it in as they wanted to check its performance and smog emissions. Before they checked it in, a elderly gentleman walked around it with a clip board looking for dings and scratches. He asked me if it had ever been to the mall. I looked at him and told him "Of course not.". |

I can't stand being in big crowds. Especially now that I'm shorter than everybody around me (except the kids). Besides, I now take up more floor space than your average standing person, and getting through aisles crowded with extra merchandise and harried shoppers is definitely NOT my idea of a good time.
Fortunately, I don't have many people to shop for. And those I do plan to give gifts to are happy to receive gift cards from national chain stores or restaurants. |

^^yup, tonnysand117. I don't like getting jossled and shoved, and walking around ailes to try to get where I really want to go. And then there is the long wait in lines to get the hell out of there, and the long walk back to the car. People backing out and trying to run you and your cart over, trying to get to the next store before you do. I generally hate malls anyway being a man, and Black Friday is hell on earth. |

I never did shop on black friday and tried to avoid all the commercialism and even though I am not religous I tried to teach my kids the more spirtual aspect of the holidays. |
