Today is November 5, a fact I remembered only when I saw the Eater logo this morning. (I presume that's Guy Fawkes?)

As an American, I don't celebrate GF, but I do celebrate November 5. On a certain November 5 - saying the year would give my age away - my adoption was finalized. My new parents doubled their family in one fell swoop. They had a 13-year-old daughter and added another 13-year-old daughter, a 7-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter (me).

Many years later, I began sending them thank-you cards to celebrate the day. After several years of this, my dad said, "Why do you send us a thank-you card every November 5th?" I told him that's when the adoption was final, and he said, "Oh. I'd forgotten you were adopted."

I get a lump in my throat every time I remember that. Very Happy

Happy anniversary, Titania.

Its gone dark outside, and it already sounds like the Western front out there. I'm in 2 minds whether to go to the local council display, as the weathers awful, but after seeing the last 2 through a viewfinder, I decided I have enough firework photos, thankyou. Here's one of last year's instead.

In health and safety concious Ilfracombe, they have cancelled the traditional bonfire and replaced it with a screen showing a fire, with heaters and smoke machines. Rolling Eyes

Don't they look happy! Think of the money and lives saved if the BBC just showed a firework display and they banned all the rest.

It's the quietest Bonfire night I can remember. Ten fireworks in quick succession two hours ago, and that's all. None at all on previous days.

That's a great story. As Corona said, you are very lucky with such parents. I hope you may celebrate that day with your parents for many years to come.

Sadly, my dad passed away in 1990, and my mom in 1997. My oldest sistyer passed in 2004. I still miss them, but I'm glad I'm close to my other siblings. I speak with my brother and sister at least once a month.

And I have also reunited with my biological siblings. Most of us are on Facebook now, along with the next generation. And the daughter of one of my brothers who was adopted by another family recently got married, with me as her maid of honor!

Family is precious, no matter how it happens. Smile
