Hi Murry Guru, what is 'OP'?!

I appriciate what you are saying completely! and to clear something up my intentions for the documentary are actually to show scambaiting in a positive light. I actually did email what University I was at and if she read the previous post as she claims she did and replied to before it was removed she would notice it said 'Film Student'...which is self explaitory.

Also, double posting is a bit of a forum faux pas. We're treating you like we would any other member, literate or not.

I don't think it's insulting to remark on poor literacy, especially as a journalistic flair is mentioned. Journalists are very literate.

Im sure you would defend yourself if someone made a personal remark like that! And I have just as much right to join this forum as anyone else and its not much to ask Im not insulted that is all I am saying.

As for double posting the reason for this is it was previously removed and the moderators very kindly agreed that I could repost it as it was removed instantly.

Unless the education system has failed you, then I see no reason for a UNIVERSITY student to post inaccurately, especially when they want to get something from members.

That is beside the point. I was merely pointing out that if you were a literate student asking for information, we would put you through the same process you have endured as an illiterate one.

Im not actually looking to cause any issue as I previously said it is a small project and anyone who feels they want to get involved they can. I have sent my details to the appropriate people.

I am very grateful to the people who do feel they do, as I could not do it without their help!

Any gramatical errors people may make should not be used to judge and I see nothing wrong with what I have previously written- its a forum after all. I feel like we are drifting off the subect here also, I dont have any bad intentions I was simply sticking up for myself and the project as I felt under fire.

Sumgirl32 has taken the trouble to establish her bona fides with me, they check out. I have to say, in my emails with her, she seems an intelligent, articulate and capable woman, and I have no hesitation to work with her on this project.

If anyone would be interested in being interviewed by her or her fellow students, I am happy to play 'piggy-in-the-middle' for those not keen to reveal more of themselves to a non-baiter but would feel safer with me. Anyone who is not interested in being interviewed, please let's just all quieten down. I will share the bona fides with anyone who comes to a studio for a face-to-face interview, but not with all and sundry - this is out of the same sense of respect and caution as I would offer any baiter. If a Mod wishes to confirm the steps I've taken to authenticate the poster, please PM me, they're good.

This is a University project led by a media mature student for her final year. I am in contact with the course tutor, she's from a real and respected university, especially recognised for its media courses. It is a real chance to get the baiter word spread a little wider, and anti-scam messages. Even if the documentary in its final form is not distributed much, I will be retaining a right to re-cut the material for if we want a baiter training film for instance.

So back on-track - is anyone interested in being interviewed for this project? On the record or anonymously?

PS - @Craig - "Human factors" may actually be a good analogy here. In this case, the process of making a documentary is greater than just the discipline of interviewing.

From my experience with the few PMs sumgirl and I have exchanged I'll back this up.

I'm still interested in helping, though I'm not located near enough to be coming over to a studio.

It was me who pulled the original posts while we had a chat in the modroom, and decided for the OP's and your protection that face to face interviews weren't on. She has reposted at my inviation, and I don't like the way she is getting dogpiled.

Play nice or I'll lock it and let people sort it with sumgirl by pm. There's absolutely no need for namecalling or accusing people of being illiterate for the sake of a couple of typos.

Right well I have to apologise then for flaming things here, not my intention at all. I was merely irritated at the PM I received from the OP, which didn't have any validation in it. My hackles were immediately raised (probably from reading too many lad emails) and I posted without thinking.

When asked to explain on this thread I posted (on an edit) that perhaps the mods were seeking that validation on behalf of the forum, which has since been done.

Anyway I won't go on about it, best of luck to all concerned, including the OP, with the project, hope it goes well.

Maybe Sumgirl naively jumped into a baiting forum boots first not knowing the level of practiced paranoia baiters have? Maybe baiters are too paranoid?
Either way,I thought I would like to get involved so I spoke with her for a while on Skype.... tough cookie Smile

Baiters do paranoia well - and it generally serves us well too Wink

It is all a part of 'what makes a baiter', with splashes of paranoia, technical ability, justice and malice...

Glad you had a nice chat Create, anyone else who fancies it please come via me if you can, and I'll make sure both sides retain a degree of anonymity and are authentically who they claim to be to prevent worries on the privacy front. As a baiter I know how important it is to us, and I know we also don't want anybody misrepresenting/impersonating us to SumGirl either!

For something as innocuos as infomation about a baiting documentary that may or may not happen, I fail to see any reason for anyone to be rude.

@ Sumgirl - If it's your intentions to highlight the victims of these anonymous crimes, and show the postive aspects of scambaiting, then good luck to you. Will you be interviewing law enforcement officers who deal with this type of cybercrime? That would add some credibility to the piece. Most docos are just fluff pieces.

Do you have a synopsis, or script layout for us to have a look at? We could then better apply ourselves. Even point form would help if you're concerned about posting the entire idea. However it's a doco, so you have no fear of anyone stealing the idea.

Nursey, early days on this, there is no particular arc yet, SumGirl32 and I are in regular contact to discuss and develop the project. Interviewing baiters will form just a part of this, and from our discussions I can see this has the opportunity to be so much more than the usual flowery piece missing the point altogether. It could be a potentially deeper film than that, which is good.

It will all kick in for proper next week, but for now if anyone has any other suggestions for "can't miss" elements of baiting/the culture please feel free to PM me and I'll add them to the list and explain them all together.

Ok, I have also just made up my mind and summarized a few of my personal and a few of the allover motives...not sure if I am not completely missing the point though and if it is useable for your project ... physically it means "chatting with baiters and talking to scammers", might not be so interesting to watch how things are being prepared and done. Hehe.
Now I´m curious as to the progression of this idea.

Murry Guru ,yes, I did recieve the reply and shall send a proper reply tonight (I have a full day of Uni today) Looks really positive and some excellent points were made. Be sure I will be sending it this evening when I get back.

Im excited about this project and its encouraging to hear that some people aren't so against the idea.As Manbaiteslion stated ,if you have anything to offer or wish to get involved please PM him because it works out easier for everyone that way. He is kindly overseeing the project on both sides and doing a great job!

Its still very early days lots and lots of planning and preperation but we will keep you posted

Will you get a chance to contact the ISP's like googlemail, yahoo and Hotmail Microsoft) to see if they are doing anything to combat scammers?
I've always thought that if the mail service providers, along with the anti-virus/ Firewall people got their act together a lot of this stuff would be killed off at source (Netbot's and spam bombers is what I'm thinking of)

I can tell you that Yahoo will do nothing. I wrote to them several times around 5 months ago about a scam put into the Event calendar and emailed to me.
Each time I got back the usual form letter.

The scam is still there.

I dont imagine that there is much they can actually do its such an out of control process...

Still, I have set up various gmail accounts and have recieved nothing! So if you get any to pass over! For the sake of my project!

Sumgirl, did you only set the accounts up or did you actually use them to reply to guestbooks? If you've only set them up, noone knows they exist and thus noone will spam them.
