I have a lad who appears to have given me a real bank account with the account holders name., swift code, and account number. He wants me to make a bank to bank transfer on Monday. I've sent the info to Alan but my understanding is I won't hear back from him. What should I do? Say I made the transfer? Make excuses for a while? How can I find out if the bank account has been shut down? I assume its real since he's asking me to transfer money into it. Any advice? |

You can always check on the progress to help determine your next move.
http://www.swift.com/biconline/
Naturally, after you see the account is down, you can send the money. He won't be able to question you. |

I tried the swift code he gave me in the bic online finder and it doesn't bring up any records. but i googled this code and found it in a charity newsletter where they posted their bank info. Does this look like a real swift code to you? why would he give me a fake bank account? He's in Benin. Here's the swift code: soge bj bj
UPDATED: oops, nevermind, i just found the bank, and it is the right swift code.
Does that site allow you to search specific bank accounts?
UPDATED AGAIN: the advanced search gives me this as the swift code for the bank: SOGEBJBJXXX |

That's not a SWIFT code.
EDIT: Actually it might be. "BJ" seems very suspicious. Let me dig into this a bit more.
EDIT AGAIN:
Quote: |
SOCIETE GENERALE DE BANQUES AU BENIN |
Still online.
YET ANOTHER EDIT: Where the hell does the "J" come into "Benin"? |

So Nick, how do i find out if the specific bank account has been closed down. that swift code is the code for the whole bank, right? not just that specific account? |

Believe it or not, I actually used to know the ins and outs of this, but the details escape me now. Let me look into this. |

I was always "busy at work" for a couple days, then the bank was closing as I got there, etc. Usually over a weekend if I could help it. That gave Alan time to do his thing. Then once I finally got to the bank, they would tell me that the account was flagged and under investigation so I couldn't transfer money into it. Then I would ask for a second account, and so far I've gotten a second account every single time
I'm awaiting NickTheCop's reply though, because it would be nice if I wouldn't say anything until the lad's bank can back up my story |

Ooh, suspense.
How the hell did I do it? I'm looking at my old reported bank accounts to try and get some sort of lead. Maybe I'm just delusional. |

Branwen, that was priceless advice on your previous post, thank you. Jade Falcon, same to you, although I'm going to hold off on "under investigation" until the end of Branwen's ploy. Nick, thanks too. this is so weird, i can't believe they gave me the bank info so fast. on my last few baits nobody has agreed to a bank to bank transfer, no matter how much i pleaded. i wonder if these guys are new to the game. ah well, makes things lively. |

You can tell him that your bank contacted you and told you the transfer could not be completed. If needed you can even quote the email your bank sent you explaining that this was very unusual because the information you gave them (quote swift etc ) seemed to be okay.
The bank's email can conclude that they would retry to send it.
This means that you have done everything you can and are working with your bank to make the transfer happen. You are not holding anything up the lad or your bank is.
You could ask him for another account.
I once sent 3 accounts to alan in 11 hours from the same lad doing essentially this.

Yes, I should qualify my previous post by saying the only piggies I've gotten were from phone lads, so I wasn't particularly careful with how I went about it, since I was only playing with them whilst waiting for their email addresses to be shut down. I haven't done this in an actual bait yet. |

Another alternative to tell your lad is that you have one of those bank accounts where you can make online transfers to any bank acount in the world. Then inadvertantly get one of the numbers wrong, and hey presto, the money has gone off into the ether But you have notified the bank and they are looking into it. They come back to you in a weeks time and say they cannot locate it, and so on..... |

I got a bank account from a lad recently, after sending to Alan I told them I would try to get to the bank but as I work through the week & we just had an emergency at work it would be difficult. Stalled for a week and just managed to get to the bank last friday, late in the afternoon and they told me it would take 4-5 working days to reach them. I guess I can bluff until next monday with that and then tell them more excuses and blah blah blah |

I wired money to my piggy almost a week ago. I have been expressing my increasing worry that the transaction still shows up as 'pending' in the online banking web interface, even tho more recent transactions are already 'approved' or even 'complete'. Are they sure this is normal,or could something be wrong?
So now they (the accountant) have to comfort me and tell me that this is in fact normal. |

It's the lads fault that the transfer isn't going through he gave you the wrong number. Or he did something else wrong even when it's not the lads fault, It's the lads fault. |
