That depends on what you mean by longest. If you're talking about how long he's been stranded, then this is one of the shortest (relatively speaking) of the "grand" safaris. It's even shorter than some of the 200 mile jobs, at a day or two under a month.

On the other hand, if you're talking about how long he's travelled... well, then this still isn't the longest. PsycheDelia_Smith safaried a lad all the way from Nigeria to Thailand (or was it Singapore). In any event, I'm not quite a record holder, but the distance I got out of this one isn't too miniscule either.

But enough about that. Let's get to the lads. This isn't quite the reaction I wanted, but at least I got Dougie to write back to me to confirm his location. Yes, he's back in Malaysia.

A few people had been inquiring about the phone calls since this bait began and I had previously respectfully denied these request based upon a variety of factors, not least of which was my own laziness. Now, although I am not abandoning this bait, I cannot help but think that it's in the winter of it's existence. Because of this, I have decided to patch together the phone calls and upload them in memory of this jolly fun trip.

Do take note of two things. Firstly, not all of the phone calls are here. I don't know why, I guess I didn't record all of them or didn't save some of them. It will appear disjointed, you've been warned. On the bright side, they are in chronological order, so with some imagination you might be able to follow them. Secondly, Audacity didn't record my microphone. I don't know why. What this means is that you'll only be hearing the lad speaking, which is all right since I'm more of a listener anyway. There aren't as many empty pockets as you might think.

The price for a one-way ticket was demonstrated on page 3.

The price for the hotel room - assuming he was staying in the same type of room that he booked for me - is on page 5.

As for miscellaneous costs (visas, food, etc), that would be a bit hard to come by.

Thanks for pointing out where to find how much this tour is costing the poor lad.

I simply cannot believe what I'm reading. As someone further up said, I get into a rage if I drive 20 minutes and the store doesn't have what I want.

I can't imagine what the lad is feeling over the time and really large sums of money spent with no reward in sight. Although he really should be thanking you, for surely the trip is educational and mind-broadening? What's a few dollars compared to that? He'll go home poorer for sure, but much wiser we hope! Or maybe he'll just kill himself.

This would make a great movie.
