I picked up a new lad about a week ago and "she" set me up with a rather incompetent attorney. I needed proof that he was an actual attorney, so I asked him for a copy of his certificate. He told me he doesn't send anyone his law certificate, but the pictures of him with his wife and son should suffice. I called him out on being unprofessional and demanded his law certificate before we went any further.

Hihi.. He doesn't have a law certificate... Maybe you should accept this and 'teach' him that this is perfectly acceptable.

no certificate? you need some proof, otherwise get him sacked and get your original lad to arrange someone more competent.
If he doesn't come up with a certificate you can't trust him ,and you so much want to send the lad some money, let him know just how close you are to sending some to him and he'll more than likely get a new lawyer or try to push you into sending some money without the certificate, either way you've got him stalled for a few more days. |

Hmmm. I dunno. Pressing for what he hasn't got in his Lad Kit isn't going to produce the documents, any more than pressing my characters for a phone number or a photograph I don't have is going to produce those.
I might be missing something here, because I'm face-blind, so a Lad could send me a photo of anyone, and I'd be none the wiser.
But, rather than object to the Nice Photographs, I'd be more inclined to use them as an excuse to get well-off-script and introduce a much more personal touch:
What a lovely dining table: is it difficult to keep all polished and shiny like that?
How wonderful to have flowers in the house! Are they fresh or dried or artificial?
Is that a tiled floor? Does the Lad find that nice and cool, or does it get damp with humidity?
Was the other photo taken in church? Who took it?
Was it taken on a normal Sunday, or was it an event like a baptism or a wedding?
Is it customary for women to wear hats in church? Or only married women? Are head coverings offered to women who come to church without them?
What denomination church does he attend? Was that what he was brought up with, or has he changed denomination, and, if so, why?
Etc.
I like chatting. Chatting never mentions money, or Western Unions, or any of that sort of disagreeable thing. |

I got these two exact same photos about a month ago from a Nigerian scammer - I stopped hearing from him... so he got a whiff of something he didn't like... |

He's being pretty difficult. He refused to send me the certificate a second time. He's obviously not competent. I think he'll get tired of me berating him and leave. |

I kind of like how he's being so difficult. If I can get it out of him, I will. If not, I'll find a new lawyer. He's been threatened with that already, I'm just waiting to see if he cooperates. |

Rejoice that he is a handsome gentleman with a beautiful family! He is obviously a man of means, so instead of sending you a copy of his law certificate (which you understand because the internet is full of crooks and thieves) perhaps he could pose with it for you in a photo? Or at least a picture from his office? Flatter him on his wisdom, see if he'll make you a trophy  |
