Just to clear my name of any cash baiting rumors.
The counterfeiter lad I posted about some time back, believe it or not, does not send you a 100 euro bill as a sample. Instead, he pulls an old baiter trick.
Turns out DHL won't let you send cash, so his little postcard is being detained in France. Surprisingly, DHL will not work with us, so now he wants 900 euros or dollars or something (I wasn't really paying attention) WU'd to him to buy a piece of African art work which he will hide the 100 euro bill in.
First of all, is this really a DHL policy? If so, it is great news for baiters, right?
Secondly, Has anyone ever heard of such a scheme? I thought it was rather creative. |

Hopefully it's too bizarre to fool a real vic, but there are some greedy and stupid people out there.
I'd just treat it as a standard bait, send him 900 whatevers by DHL
When that fails for exactly the same reasons, he can explain all about WU, then you can get excited and get him to WU you the €100 note (yes, I know, but your character might not...meaning more explanations), then it all gets silly... |

I considered the DHL/WU move you described.
For now I told him I'm an art buff, so I will pay more to get some really great Burkino Fasoian art work. I think I'll have him send me (hopefully 100 at minimum) pictures of some art work so I can decide which piece to get. |

^^ We didn't know how it would pan out.
It's an interesting modality the lad is using but I'd be inclined to make the lad do more than provide 100 pictures. Eventually reject all offers and force him to produce something unique. |

Sorry, haven't read the original bait. |

mr.scissorkick, seems it is the policy of the big 3 courier companies:
Found this at the bottom of the UPS website, UPS Tariffs/Terms and Conditions of Service pdf file:
http://www.ups.com/media/en/terms_service_us.pdf
If you scroll down to the bottom of page 3, you will find this:
Quote: |
F. Definition of Articles of Unusual Value Which Are Not Accepted By UPS For
Transportation
1. Shippers are prohibited from shipping articles of unusual value via UPS.
Articles of unusual value shall be deemed to include, but are not limited to:
a. Any package with an actual value of more than $50,000;
b. Coins, cash, currency, bonds, postage stamps, negotiable instruments
(such as drafts, bills of exchange, or promissory notes, but excluding
checks), and money orders;
c. Unset precious stones, and industrial diamonds; |
From DHL website, Prohibited and Restricted Commodities pdf file:
http://www.dhl-usa.com/resources/Prohibited_Restricted_Commodities.pdf
On page one I found:
Quote: |
NOT acceptable for transport
The following commodities are NOT acceptable for transport by DHL
– UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, including domestic (USA) moves.
• Live Animals, Reptiles, Snakes, Birds, Insects (other than those
listed below for domestic transit under restricted commodities)
• Bullion
• Currency |
And on Fedex.com
http://www.fedex.com/us/international/irc/profiles/irc_us_profile.html?gtmcc=us#C04
About half way down:
Quote: |
United States Import Prohibitions
The following items are prohibited into the United States of America by law: (via FedEx Express service)
White phosphorus matches
Immoral articles (as defined in 19CFR12.40) including films, pictures, writings, etc.
Merchandise produced by convict, forced or indentured labor (as defined in 19CFR12.42)
Counterfeit coins, stamps, currency or other monetary securities of any government and any plates, dies or apparatus used to create such counterfeits.
|
Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. |

Lads never have any money, or so they say, he'll have to go for the piece of art, best he gets 3 or 4 so you can choose which is the best one to hide the money in. |

@Catcher: He only has two completed samples of his 100 euro bills. One of which is now in the hands of DHL.
The funny thing, to me, is that he wants to send me a 100 euro bill as a sample, of which he has mentioned having at least 3 different ones in his possession at the beginning of his script. Then he tells me that the acting powder he needs to buy is like 159USD.
Let me get this straight, you have 300 counterfeit euros, which are 100% risky free. You will be able to create millions more, but unfortunately you don't have the $159.00 USD! to buy the activating powder.
Here I thought the USD was struggling, but apparently it is substantially more than a euro?
Lads... |

Re shipping cash
While the major carriers have a policy against it, how would the detect a bill in an envelop? Do they have the new electonic euroscan system that detects the tag in the currency? Do his fakes pass the tag test?
I'd ask him, because you don't want problems in the future getting things sent to you. The possibilities are endless... |

^^ This lad is bullshitting, like all lads.
mr.scissorkick is running this bait. Naturally, it would be nice to see scans or photographs of the 'merchandise' prior to shipping. |

@jlc: I didn't question any of the stupidity or illogical twists in his story because I like lads to be illogical and stupid.
This story he's cooked up is one of the more cleverly over-complicated scripts I've been fed. For some reason, lads think that the more complex a scenario is, the more likely it's true. Which is why baiting them is such an exciting sport.
As Manbiteslion said, I'm hoping it's too far-fetched and ridiculous to fool a real vic. Besides, if you lose your life savings trying to invest in an overseas counterfeiting ring, you're not exactly the most innocent victim. |

Sorry about the double post; it was brought to my attention that I have not emphasized an important detail about this lad/bait: at no point in his script does thid lad send you money, in fact he doesn't send you anything at all. |
