Just further to the above post, I'm making the trip across the pond on 3rd September, and will be in NYC for Labour Day (which I believe is on the 7th this year).

So I get what Labour Day is all about, but whats everyone up to? Do you have like parades and parties and things like that? Is Labour Day a big deal, or just 'put your feet up' kinda holiday?

Americans generally only have two weeks for vacations so they try and use weekends like Labour Day and Memorial Day to get out. LD represents the last three day weekend and the end of the summer so parents take their kids somewhere. New Yorkers go out and tourists come in to town. Enjoy. Wink

It used to be that children returned to school just after Labor Day (BTW, it's an American holiday, so it's spelled the American way Wink

), so the weekend has long been summer's last hurrah. Some cities have parades, but mostly it's long-weekend trips, closing up the summer cabin, cookouts, and possibly family reunions.

There will probably be lots of sales going on in the shops. I'm not even going to guess as what kind of weather you'll have there. At least you won't have to deal with all the people going to work, although there will still be impenetrable traffic. Very Happy

Anyone with a foreign accent (esp. european) is suspended from a bit of string and beaten with sticks until they disgorge sweeties.

Tip: take plenty of sweeties.

We do the whole cookout and family time type of thing. It kinda seems like a less important 4th of July atmosphere.
