I'm not too fond of Facebook games. I seem to recall that when your friends play them, it litters your newsfeed with all sorts of useless (even by the standards of a social networking site) information. I don't care that you got 500, then 750, then 1000, then 1500 points in "BrickBlaster Supreme" or something. |

^^ That is true, but there is an option to hide those people from your newsfeed. The only reason I play Facebook apps is because I've vowed not to play any more MMORPGs. They suck up way too much time. |

You can suppress notifications from a specific app or just block the application altogether, which is the big hammer. No one can even invite you/gift you if you do that.
I play the two I mentioned because they're actually kinda fun and don't require a huge time commitment to level up and don't require huge amounts of spamming your friends to play, too. I "play" Lil Blue Cove, Lil Green Patch and Lil Eco Racer to do a bit of good, hopefully. They donate to good causes based on your participation.
The rest like Farm Town and Farmville and Happy Farm and Farm Fresh and all the other Farmity Farm Farm Farm apps... pure peer pressure. Yes, here, person who hasn't so much as sneezed at me in more than ten years but friended me simply because we set foot in the same high school once, by all means, let's increase our social interaction by sending digital cows to one another because I recall you as being reasonably pleasant and don't want to offend you...
That's pretty much why most Facebook apps work. Guilt. I feel guilty if I say no to most invites. The exception being ones that I would have a hinky feeling about using in public. |
