I totally agree- we're both sort of straight-baiting the guy, although mine quickly became more wonky than straight, but it's great to see the same bait go off in such different directions. There are so many other threads that could've been pulled on, too... I think I'll keep this guy beyond Friday, and try to get some more mileage out of the Evil Cult.

I especially like the way that you managed to get two accounts out of him quickly and smoothly, and fairly early in the bait, whilst it took me offering a suitcase full of cash before he would consider the idea of giving me one of his precious accounts. Losing one of those must really hurt!

Basically, this dry run is working out exactly as well as I'd hoped, and better than I'd expected! May the best rich farmer or idiot millionaire win!

As has been said this thread is a fun dry-run for your Baiters Cup competition idea, but more importantly a superb resource for new baiters to see how different styles of baiting unfold.

I noticed him popping up online earlier (via the magic of his google chat account) but the little bugger hasn't emailed me back, so I'm upping the ante.

My character has written to the Lad, casually mentioning:

- The reason the (expensive) car is not being used at the moment (its non-use has already been written of at least once, probably twice, before);

- That he has an obligation to fulfil this afternoon (so will neither be online nor running about attending to financial transactions);

- That he doesn't have a scanner (albeit omitting to explain that his friend David - who does have a scanner - is very difficult to get hold of).

What he has failed to mention however, because he hasn't paid attention to the News and so does not realise yet, is that there is a train strike in his region today and tomorrow. He will not be able to get to the city, nor the bank, therefore. Such a shame.

Well, I'm glad I checked my mail this morning before leaving for the bank. That's the trouble with computers, isn't it, once anything goes wrong, everything grinds to a standstill these days. I'm catching the 10:17 train to the city, it's a nice little service and only takes 20 minutes, it's actually a lot easier than taking the car and then trying to find somewhere to park.

This afternoon, I'm staffing a Church Crafts stall, which is a little fund-raising thing our church does every year, selling crafts made by members of the congregation. I said I'd take a turn, and there was no one else to do it today. I thought at first I wouldn't be able to do it, as I'd promised to take Philip, our French student, to the City Museum, but now he has arranged to go with a couple of our campers, which I suppose will be more fun for him, as they are more his age. I suppose he'd prefer that really, than going with me, I'm old enough to be his dad, so I suppose he thinks I'm a bit old and boring.

Anyway, I'll get back to you this evening and let you know all is well with the bank transfer. They don't give me my transfer form back, but I can ask them to give me a copy. I'll have to take it to my friend David to scan, though, because I've just got a laptop now, not a PC, and I haven't got a scanner.

I'll look forward to reading your promised mail about your traditions and culture. And it will be very interesting to learn about your traditional music.

Oh crud! I keep coming in there to post and yet, every time something comes up and I end up not posting anything. Confused

I have been following this thread closely; I think it is pretty cool what you both are doing. My hat's off to you both, Branwen and Scammy!

I love the differences in the baiting styles and seeing the examples of both. I think it takes a special baiter to post an on-going bait, without knowing the outcome or the whether is will end up including any of the typically 'exciting' aspects, such as a safari, trophies, bank accounts, etc.

So if you have lost contact with your lad and this is the end, I think it has been a great experience to watch and a learning tool for many. Very Happy

There have been times in the past when scammers that appeared in the surplus forum were more likely to get their addresses shut down. This lad appears twice on the surplus forum and in another thread as well. At least two other people are baiting him.

Maybe the lads should come from a private source. That way they should stick around long enough for the competition.

I agree with you thud: the first Lad for this (little puppies for adoption) had his email account closed, and now the second.

It seems it would be better if a Lad is found out of somebody's Spam Folder, and the email address withheld from general view. Maybe even the initial scammail withheld: one could always name the 'type' without actually reproducing it.

But I guess that's the object of a 'dry run' - to see what can be improved.

I'm still hoping that Mr No-Contraceptives has made note of his correspondents elsewhere.

But if not: my own vote for the winner is:

I think this has been a great thread, whether or not it's completely run its course. And well done for trying it out in public view.

I agree, it's probably best to keep certain details (like the scammer's email address, phone number etc) unpublished as part of the ongoing "competition" posts, otherwise you have no way of preventing casual visitors from getting involved with the scammer too.

Looking forward to seeing another round or two, whether or not it's part of a full fledged tournament.

And (as I said in the PM) it wouldn't matter if it is an identical bank account: I'm sure Alan would like to know that it has been sent to more than one person - it verifies that it is being used as a receiving account for a scammer. (And that I'm not just an ex-friend who is trying to get him into trouble!)

Do please report it to Alan.

Lad has written to my character again from his new email account also: much to my surprise.

My Farmer Boy goes early to bed, however, so hasn't read it.
