Walter Cronkite passed away Friday
Maybe a little before the time of some of you young'uns,but when I was growing up, Walter Cronkite was the only news anchor worth watching.
I vividly remember his broadcasts during the Apollo program. He was absolutely fascinated by all the scientific details. And when Apollo 11 landed on the moon, he actually burst into tears.
A little piece of history has been filed away for safekeeping.  |

If you are over a certain age he was almost THE news anchor.I was thinking about him and the Apollo progam also.The night they landed on the moon,my parents let me stay up late to watch the broadcast.I know the cliche is overused,but I feel like part of my childhood just died

yup, me too. I watched him every night when I was a kid, up until he retired. He was the most honest journalist out there. There has never been anyone like him. RIP Walter. You were the very best. |

Yes, I remember him as a kid too. Just the three channels back then. His was the day of the straight news reporter, not the news slash analyst slash celebrity reporters of today. R.I.P. |
