It's the start of the dry season here, Solomon Islands, and we're getting a few of the more reclusive animals coming out.
This one came through the nursery last week, it's about 5' long, only guessing, I wasn't game to get that close. It's very aggressive, fast, and no one here knows if it is venomous or not. It wove itself through the mesh as though it was a sewing thread, and came at me when I tried to get closer with the camera.
If anyone knows which variety it is?
This is the other sort we have, Solomon Ground Boa, this one didn't mind being handled.

The first snake (One with the fence) Looks like a brown tree snake to me..

vipers will have a angular shaped head that is a bit offset from the body.
from what i have been able to google the Solomon Islands have Boa's, tree snakes, water snakes (coral snakes) and some vipers.
Stay away from anything that has a triangle shaped head (Except for boa's) Sea snakes have some of the deadliest poison in the world so stay away from them too.
Your a smart cookie .. if you don't know what it is. The best bet is stay the hell away from it. |

the aggression and looks suggest a brown tree snake. Not really venomous, but prolific, aggressive, annoying.

thanks Jack and Stephan, I'll go with the brown tree snake id, nasty bloody thing that it is.
Everyone here treats every snake as venomous, so they just indiscriminately kill any snake. The small earth snakes are the best to find though, about 3mm diameter, bright blue/red or a flesh colour grey, about 6" long. They live in the soil and chase ants.insects.mites etc, and everyone jumps back when they find them in the garden soil.
No one knows if they bite or not, they are extremely tiny, eyes like small pin pricks.
