I have been chating with a scammer for almost three weeks now on yim. His ID is [email protected]. I met him on truebeginnings.com a dating site. He has some my personal info. Now its time to bring him down. It was my frist time on a dating site and I admit that I got caught up in the "I love yous" and "want to be with you". Hes 44 and claims to live in Las Vegas,NV. I'm 60 so the thought of a younger guy wanting me was flattering and in his picture hes cute. I was smart enough not to send him any money or the bank and cc#. Not that I could have if I wanted to. I told him I didn't have any which is the truth. But he still keeps asking me. I have decided to open a gmail account, catch him on yim and claim to be a friend of mine that thinks hes cute and wants to get to know him. Ofcourse I will have went to the store so she was here waiting on me. I need to figure out how to block my address from showing where I'm at. Like town or state. I don't think hes in Nigeria like he say because he always seems to be online when it would be 3 or 4 in the mornig over there. I talked to him for 3 hours at a time which would have kept him up all night there. He asked me to call him and did give me a Nigerian phone # which I did call but only for about a minuete at the most. I was wondering if it could have been re-routed to somewhere here in the states. I could use some help with this if someone can take me under their wing. I just joined the site today and don't know for sure what to do or how to do it. And in some ways I'm a little scared. But I'm not sure why. I think I got caught up in the dream more then I want to admit. He had me peg right.
Thanks for your help and all that you do.

Hi Kaylee
I am in a bit of a rush right now but will give you a more detailed answer later
First thing you need to do is to read the romance baiting FAQ
you will find it in the love scams index
4th one down
As to your plans, please dont do anything until after you have read the FAQ
You will probably realise why when reading but if not I can give you a more detailed answer from home a little later
Edited to fix rushed typos, I did say I was in a rush |

Firstly welcome to eater, Kaylee
I don't do Nigerians, So I can't offer an working advise, But what I will say, before anyone else does, is "IF" he has any of your personal details, drop him straight away and have nothing further to do with him on a personal level..
it's simply not worth the risk, and is not safe practice.
I would suggest that if you could post a couple of his e-mails, and the e-mail headers, [please remove your details first] this will help the experts in identifying him, If in fact he is a scammer. And if he is a scammer disregard everything he has told you
It's not really a good idea to seek revenge, more often then not your emotions will give you away. If you want revenge apply for a mentor, and learn to bait in a cold, detached way, While someone else makes your friend suffer, Then when your equipped with all the nasty things you will learn on here, you could perhaps have another go at him, in the future.
As for an e-mail account, Gmail will hide your IP, and it's the favored
one to use by the collective.
We are glad that you haven't parted with any money and found us in time |

Welcome Kaylee. It's great you realized it was all part of a scam. Murry and weareborg have already pointed you in the right direction. I also strongly recommend reading the Romance Baiting FAQ. It will answer a lot of your questions and address many of your concerns. Post any of your questions in the forum. There are plenty of excellent baiters willing to help out. |

Hi, Kaylee, and welcome!
The others above have offered excellent advice, and I urge you to follow it.
In answer to your question about the times you IM with him - he apparently works the night shift at the internet cafe. He keeps his hours consistent with US hours because he claims to be in the US. Although why he'd give you a Nigerian phone number to call when he's in the US I have no idea.
If you want to cause lad torment, read all the stickies (especially those in the Love/Dating Scams forum), and make sure you are baiting safely. If you want to cause this particular lad some torment, post his emails here and let the experts take over. I can guarantee exquisite torment and grief for him. Eater baiters are like that. |

Hi Kaylee!
The less-successful Nigerian Lads do stay in the internet café overnight, because it is cheaper, or oftentimes, totally free of charge then. In the mornings and evenings they have to pay. (I also get the impression it is cheaper in the heat of the afternoons, so not-too-successful ones use it at that time also.)
So 'working the night shift' just means your Lad hasn't made much money yet.
Of course you want to find out more about him by pretending to be someone else: that is normal. You could just find out things, or you could even seek revenge. Both would be what people in your position usually want to do.
But: please don't.
I say this as someone who wrote to her very own Romance Scammer (I even met him!), pretending to be other women, for a year.
It is not nice. He is not nice. It could be very upsetting when you realise he says the same things to your pretend person as he said to you. He may even talk about you. And not nicely, either.
The hard truth is that there are lots of scammers like that out there. If you want to waste their time and seek a bit of revenge, it is quite easy to find some more. Just like your Lad. Waste their time if you like. Discover what they are all like through those. Enjoy messing them about.
But not your own. Regarding him, you need to put him totally behind you, not carry on making him the focus of your life.
It is the best way. |

Welcome to 419
I'd drop this one -- set up a new account just for romance scamming and head back into the dating forums looking for a new bait.
I have had many that worked over night - I think it's cooler for them to work nights & sleep during the hot part of the day...
If he said he was in Nigeria and gave you a Nigerian number, I'd say he's in Nigeria (although never trust anything a scammer says to you).
I'm glad you realized he was a scammer and found here before you lost money and broke your heart - a lot of people aren't that lucky.
I think scam baiting is a fun hobby ... take it on your time, make them do most of the work (staying up late, explaining things about them and where they are...)
Just remember to try not to educate them. Right now I keep telling my lads about the 5th of July activities I have planned...so when they try to use the 5th of July when they are supposed to be from the US, innocent people may get tipped off...it is unlikely they will look it up. And if one of them says something to me about it, I'll just say that I am celebrating a day late due to friends having other plans on the 4th...
They DO try to learn more about the culture by talking with you ... I turn it around and ask about their local customs (where is the rainforest, beach, oil in relation to you...what languages do you speak...do you swim or fish) I try to keep them talking about THEIR lives and when they conflict themselves, don't correct them - the more they mess up and think they got away with it, the more likely it is they won't worry about it next time...
Take your time with them, let them gain trust just like they expect a victim to trust them...I even had one silly enough to ask me to check out the validity of a stolen credit card and ask me about various other types of scams (viagra type scams)...then find some of the fun things to do with them like the M7CN S3CUR3 several times or join 419 and use @ll St@r shipping to send a shipment to them that gets lost/stolen/damaged and have them go on safari for an insurance check...
Above all, have fun ... don't take it personally ... they're just scum and you're just wasting their time |
