My son got a Desmond 2:2 in Physics today Very Happy

, so proud of Him He is the first in my Family to go to University , having said that our milkman was quite clever

From the student room-

* A First is known as a Geoff Hurst/Damien Hirst (as 'First' sounds like 'Hurst' or 'Hirst')
* A 2:1 is known as an Attila the Hun (as '2:1' sounds like 'the Hun')
* A 2:2 is known as a Desmond Tutu (as '2:2' sounds like 'Tutu')[2][3]
* A Third is known as a Douglas Hurd/Thora Hird (as 'Third' sounds like 'Hurd' or 'Hird')

According with the conventions of rhyming slang, only the person's first name is used. Thus, one can be awarded a Geoff (First), Attila (2:1), Desmond (2:2), or a Douglas (Third).

For the Yanks, the UK degree system is in two levels, ordinary and honours. An ordinary degree only has one grade: "pass". An honours degree has three grades: 1st is for people who don't do anything but work, 2nd is for people with a good work/beer balance, and 3rd is for people who drink a little too much beer. The second is then split into two grades: 2.1 and 2.2.

Generally, you need a 2.1 or 1st to go on to a postgraduate degree.

Congratulations to your sons. I've got a Desmond too. I would say may partner is a Hun, but she'd hit me.

Cough! Carol Vorderman's IQ is 154. Which is less than mine. Though I'm also very stupid. And didn't go to University. Didn't go to school much, either.

It also depends on which standard deviation you use: 15 and 24 are both commonly used.
