Huh? Copyright claim by BBC on Youtube?

This is really weird... I uploaded a video on Queensday (you know, the Dutch holiday where some guy rammed a crowd) about what had happened. It was footage from the NOS (Dutch Press thingy) and I did the translation/subtitling myself. Now my video has been disabled because there was a copyright claim from the BBC World Service?!

What the... Confused

EDIT: Vid removed again, not sure if it is against rules?

Perhaps the BBC filmed that, and they own the rights? You can't post that, that's copyright infringement.

It's filmed by the NOS reporters. Besides, only the subtitled versions are claimed to be breaking copyrights.. it seems the BBC just assumed that all subtitled versions were theirs or something. I'm not sure, but it sure seems like that.

If you want to keep it posted then just stick it on rapidshare, the BBC can complain all they like then, it won't get removed.

Eh? RapidShare DOES remove files. Better use mail.ru then, Russians usually don't remove shit Razz

But the point of the video was to tell people outside the Netherlands what had happened, in a mass media way. Which was Youtube and Liveleak Razz

Intellectual property management is hard work and big business. Everything is owned by somebody, except for things which have either had those rights waived, or fallen out of copyright.

My hunch would be this - NOS filmed it, but rather than handling the international syndication themselves, they partner with BBC Worldwide who will act as the collection agency for that material in all territories excluding the Netherlands (including the whole of the online world)

You're violating someone's copyright, but it may not be the BBC's.

Your not the only one who has had problems with the bbc claiming copyright for video that is NOT there video.

It can happen even if you film something yourself.
