I was a member of this site long time ago. A few computers later i'm back, have no chance to remember my old username etc. Embarassed

I recall that we had "back then" a program we started to eat bandwidth of dirty scam-sites..
Do any of you have a link to that small program? -And the site it was hosted on?

I don't think that's approved behaviour any more - not only is it totally ineffective, but also it affects ITP's (free site hosting is on shared boxes, all the other sites will be affected)

But i recall that it was mainly targeting fake bank-sites, and that program downloaded a list with "dirty sites" that it stressed by reloading graphics on that site.. Smile

(Btw: i think it's least 3-4 years ago. )

Which is a DoS attack. Which is both illegal and affects third parties. Not a good idea. There are plenty of DoS tools out there, but it causes too much trouble for other people on the same webhosting server.

Well, that was the goal.. That way the hosting-company would close their account for breaking terms..

The Lad Vampire does constantly download images, & HTML files from a list of fake sites.

They ceased operating it in September '07.

AA419 is where it was hosted.

But you could easily take down their server for a few hours, which would also affect legitimate websites hosted at the same server.

Also, just send an abuse report. Works most of the time.

Oh do go and join the delightful Dora and harmonious Harvest Moon in fakey killers! Times have moved on, but the goal is still the same, and the guys in fake are incredibly efficient.

Just for what it's worth, you could try begging a mod to reinstate your old a/c if you can search back and find who you used to be?!

It is far more effective to kill their site through reporting them to their hosts. A bandwidth attack will just cause them a temporary problem removing their hosting removes their site totally.

i searched for a thread about this earlier, but all i found was posts by 'the vampire' about his current 'lad'
but adding 'aa419' as a keyword found the thread straight away...

DoS attacks are illegal just like DDoS attacks (they are not the same). Google it Smile

the way i read it, they dropped it because it wasn't effective any more.

Sounds exactly like LadVampire to me.

Regardless of the reasons for it being discontinued, the fact is that there is no need for it any more. We now have far more reliable means of removing websites.

Nothing is better than have a nice and good dialog with hostmasters..
Agree that was a primitive way to force a site offline, but i think it had the effect in soften the hostmasters, and make them do something about their customer..

BTW: Not an issue any more.. (those times is gone. )

You know what is a bandwidth stealer, it's people who post multiple quote after quote after quote, there is no need to keep quoting every post, we can see them above your post, instead, aim your reply as @ username Wink
