I'm sorry Yast, it really is a very 'local' joke but I will endeavour to explain.

It all stems from 1455 and The War of the Roses. The Houses of Lancaster and York fought for the British throne with Lancaster victorious.

Today there is rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire really only in sport but many 'Yorkies' have very little time for Lancashire folk and visa-versa.

Bolton is a fine Lancastrian town and birthplace to the great Fred Dibnah who was quite a local celebrity and television presenter.

For Sky to call him a Yorkshireman is tantamount to saying Bob Hawke is a Kiwi or Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is Sydney's famous opera singer.

I work (sometimes) and go uni in bolton, Just take the supplies of cheap alcohol, 10 Bensons gold and Lambert and butler away, You will be upsetting the chav/certain other major population.

Someone at the uni asked me why theres just pie and mobile phone shops.

Or say the warburtons bread advert makes the whole of Bolton inbreeds "Gimme 6"

Or some are very proud of the Uni, Just calling it a polytechnic is enough aswell.

i always thought the lanky v yorkie stuff was a joke . my dad is form Lancashire and i have never heard any anti Yorkshire stuff form him or any of my family over there . i have heard one thing on the tv said about yorkshire men but not said by anyone from lancashire by the way . short arms deep pockets .
