I cant see how he could have even done it, The first time I take a 221 to the depot I see this so I had to jump out and take a snap.

My guess is he went through a red light, then a set of catch points, designed to derail stuff before it joins a main line.

That's going to take one big crane, they weigh 130 Tons. Gold Hat and the sheddies may be interested to know that Class 66's are known as 'garden sheds' because of their roof shape.

The ATS should have stopped him just after the signal, The 66 are indeed workhorses and it was picked up by a mobile crane, The driver is sacked more than likely, he broke alot of rules.

Both horrific crashes, We regulary get pee tested for drugs/booze (I am nearly completly tee-total since getting the job, all my mates think I am a pansy for not drinking - Although I'll have one at home if I aint in work for a day or so), One unders are just as bad in my opinion.

When we were in London, I dragged Hayley to Harrow & Wealdstone station, to the site of the disastrous 1952 accident when an express went past a signal at red in fog. Picture Link It plowed into a standing local train, seconds later an express at full speed plowed into the wreckage, 112 died. Sad

The wreck of the 3 trains piled up higher than the station footbridge, bringing it down.

You can still see scarred brickwork along the inside of the platforms, and the section of the footbridge brought down by the wreck doesn't match the original. Needless to say, Hayley was not enthralled by it all.

My late father was one of the rescuers at the Harrow and Willesden crash,
the only major incident he attended, was told all about it.

I knew the Station Inspector who was on duty at the time of the Moorgate
crash.

We always considered that near misses gave the greater shock in later life.

its dificult to, We even ave to stop to take/make calls to control, if the radio is down etc, if we are caught texting we are disciplined straight away. not worth the risk, even though everyone is like "OMG WHY YOU NOT TEXT BACK LIKE NOW" and lads don't get it

My dad was a civil engineer and worked on the rebuilding of Moorgate after the crash.

I'm no expert, but it looks like that train has jumped the points.

I live near a station and miss the sound of diesels shunting along the tracks. Deltics made a particularly nice sound, especially when moving off, then it changed to a howl as the speed built up.

My SO had an office that overlooked the site of the Southall disaster. Horrific sights and sounds and still the source of vivid nightmares Crying or Very sad

On a happier note I'm glad I'm (just) old enough to remember the days of steam before Dr Beeching took his axe to the UK regional rail network. There was a railway line at the bottom of my granny's garden and I used to wait for the filthy old steam mail trains thundering past early in the morning.

Looking at the report today, it seems a point was faulty, It was set against not for the train, Main thing is, the driver is still here to tell the story.

He got his job back Ok then? I went to London recently on a Pendolino, Jay, I was very impressed with the speed and the lean in the curves. How fast will she go Mister?

Travelling first class recently (lucky me!) to London on a Virgin Pendolino theres a section where you are passing some canals and locks and the train tilts as it goes around a bend .... but what you perceive is the large body of canal water tilting crazily and impossibly from the horizontal while you in the train remain unmoved by it all ... but slightly confused because the water isn't falling out of the canal and across the railway lines.

I noticed all this while enjoying a rather nice breakfast of smoked salmon and soft scrambled eggs ... very nice!

As a child we lived near Tyseley Station in East Birmingham and along with a lot of my classmates/local kids we were train spotting nerds ... Tyseley sheds and shunting areas were great for bagging assorted Clans and Castles on top of all the regular stuff.

But for total nerds nothing will ever beat the guy sitting opposite me (another train, another day) talking bulk material carriage numbers as fast as he could into a recorder as we trundled slowly into Birmingham New Street. WEIRDO! Rolling Eyes
