What do you consider a "sucessful" scambait?

Do you like to get extended dialogs?
Or do you like to get the scammer to do ridiculous things, travel somewhere to meet you, or send trophy pictures?
Is it enough to keep him tied up for a long time thereby wasting his time?
Do you like to get him to sympathize to your own ridiculous stories?
Do you like to get him to tell you about himself?

Maybe its all of these things or any of them.

I'm interested to hear what you consider to be a wildly successful scambait.

I like them to buy into what I'm selling then slowly and painfully come to believe they have been duped without having any real proof. All accomplished with the least effort possible by me.

Any time a real person isn't scammed because of my efforts. Other than that everything else just feeds my twisted sense of justice.

That pretty much nails it. That covers SO much of what we do. Wasting their time - check. Less time for real vics. De-educating them? Check. Less effective with real vics. Getting them on safari? Check. While they're off on safari, they're not scamming others. Getting them to spend their money? Check. Less money for time at the internet cafe to scam real vics. And on and on.

That's pretty much my yardstick. While I know some baiters bait for the entertainment value, or for the opportunity to f* with scumbags and feel okay about it, I bait solely for the purpose of fighting 419 crime.

I agree. Keeping them away from the vunerable is the main objective whatever way you go about it. Whilst to some our baiting may appear childish and cruel, it is just a means to an end. We have fun doing something quite serious and pro-active and when a baiter is directly involved in saving a vic, it makes it worthwhile and completely vindicated.

The fact that they think there putting one over on me , and the reverse is true, is enough for me, and once a bait gets established and there off-script, every reply is a trophy of sorts.

Totally serious answer? I agree completely with everyone's responses above. ^^^

The fun answer? Several of us are having a blast letting lads waste their phone credits calling us on Skype. In fact, with just phone baiting, the real Charles Soludo (yes, I am sure it is him, he has told us so!), has just given DQ and I our first bank account to report to Alan. And most of it was with his phone credits! Got to love that! Laughing

Knowing I stopped someone from losing a lot of their hard earned savings.

It's amusing to have a lad jump through your hoops and waste lots of his time on pointless safaris but the sure and certain knowledge that you prevented someone becoming a (willing) victim beats anything else hands down.

For me, a wildly successful scam bait is one in which I have raised the Lad's hopes only to have broken his heart.

A successful scam bait is one in which the Lad invested time, effort, and resources in multiple emails, phonecalls, downloads, and WU/MG office visits and in which the Lad still thinks my character is real.

The fun aspect of baiting is essential. Without it we'd all be incredibly boring people who sit at home stroking our rifles and talking to the lamp. My lamps name is Betsy, and she tells me to burn things.

Any bait that takes up more of the scammer's time than mine is a successful one in my eyes. I started baiting as an attempt to stop scammers getting to real vics.

I also love to get out some random excuses, and just picturing the look on the scammer's face when he opens a WU receipt with the MTCN covered by something/struggles with MTCN S3cure, or opens another email where my character has been involved in some sort of fiasco just adds to it.
