I showed a little old lady in her 80's and she recognised straight away.
Top end stuff in the day. Not worth much now.
Found a few on ebay in good nic cheap.

Looks doubled caned. (Has cane on both sides of arms) Are there any holes?

*Edit* Never heard of Jarvi lounge. Where did you get that from?

I think Jarvi was an Australian Manufacture. Reproduction maybe.
I am unsure if my Grandparents brought it with them from the UK or if they purchased it in OZ. I think it came with them. I remember some large wooden crates when they arrived. Gran would have a fit if saw the state of it now. One of my Sisters had it for years and started to restore it. Not such a good move.
I've got to move in a few weeks and I was trying to work out if I should sell it or dump it.
Double caned is right some has been torn along the seam.

Any markings to look for?

Manufacturer's name not so important with these. If the cane is too damaged they are unsaleable as it costs too much to repair.

Brown furniture is on it's backside at the moment in the UK but I can't give a price for where you are. You could try the local auction. Put it in with a low reserve. Failing that, give http://www.freecycle.org.au/ a go. Wink

I'd hate to see it trashed the timber alone has value. So it's going to auction one week no reserve.

I spoke with my parents and it was purchased here in Australia in the 60's via Grace Bros.
I looked over it and no stamps plates or any signifying markings.

I got permission to get rid of it Cool

I'm about to move back to my house that I had rented out to my girlfriend (now fiance) when I moved towns I'm not sure of the protocol, but as it's her house at the moment she should still pay full rent right. Problem is we have doubles of most things and I have plenty more crap as well. I hate chucking stuff. It always becomes useful 3 weeks after you decide you don't need it.
Now I have all the really good cooking stuff stainless etc and she agrees that all that should come.
She has all this girly crystal budda dragon rocks and dust collecting stuff.
Thats gotta go right? I need room for my model aeroplanes

Other great news is I will be starting a real job in two weeks, hence all the panic. I will be getting paid, have holidays, super and a company car. Stuff I haven't had in 10 years being self employed. However I was able to attend court raise three children and do all the crap that had to be done during that that time. Harry's book will be on the shelf one day.

Thanks for everyone's help. It's always great to see the diverse knowledge amongst the members here. I've never seen a question go unanswered or without some rational attempt to resolve it. Great bunch all of you. I'm head down arse up packing and all from tomorrow.

Oh, I'm on a bigger screen now and can see the photo better. It's single caned. Double caning is when a panel has cane on both sides.

In the UK you pay anything from £1.50-£2.00 a hole to get it done. That means you count the holes around the seat or panel edge where the rattan is pushed through and times it. A single dinning chair comes out at around £150.00 normally. A good caner can do two a day.

Double is normally charged out at £4.00-£5.00 that as it's so difficult to do.

If anyone is looking for a career change you can't find caners anymore and there is tons of work around. I can do it but don't have the time as I'm always busy on other things. It's a good job if you can get your head around it.

I have this doll with carriage and I know it is very old. My friend tells me that she is a china doll. I would love to know if she possibly came with carriage, as she fits to a tee. The carriage top is made out of real canvas, her hair is like real and both are in perfect shape. It is very sentimental, as my daddy found it for me. Wink

If anyone has any knowledge of this, please let me know. Cool

I had an identical one years ago. Bought it from a 2nd hand furniture trader on Parramatta Road, Taverners Hill Must be all of 30 years ago.
Don't ask me what I paid for it. I restored it with new woven panels in the sides, and new cushions. We had a one piece cushion for the base of the 3 seater lounge. The timber was English Oak, If your intending to strip it down use Costic Soda with a tooth brush on the carved sections, and plenty of cold water.
The thing weighed a ton, from memory it was of a French design, made who knows where. I can't even remember what happened to it, i think my first X got it in a settlement, so it was sold. She sold every bloody thing including me.

The big problem with selling the thing is transport to the new owner, unless there local. and a re-upholster job, will cost you more then it's worth these days.

You might consider donating it to a refuge or shelter type organisation. Here in the UK, donations like this are usually collect pro gratis.
