A new recovery scam hit my inbox today:

Quote:

We received a report from British High Commission in Nigeria,Benin Republic,Ghana and Bokinafaso . This is a report of scam against you and other British/US citizens and Malaysia. They said that Your name was among those scammed as listed by the West Africa Financial Intelligent Unit (WAFIU). We know that those criminals might have scam you a lot of money but we promise you will recover all your lost money and what ever they take from you.

Then:

Quote:

Are you ready and still intresting to recieved your fund and recover back your lost money? can you co-oprate and comply with the rules and regulations guiding the POLICE FORCE?
We want to assure you that once this matter is fully registered by you officially. We are given you only two weeks to get all those criminal arrested and they must provide all the money you lost so far.

Straight onto the money:

we are hereby to inform you that Before we carry out an investigation with this report, You are required to registerd and renew the case file report with the sum of ($105) one hundred and five united state dollars only, before we should foward for the arrest of those criminals, and we promise you that before two weeks, you will receive your fund and recover all the money you loss into this transaction.

They want to know all about the scammers, and add:

Lastly state clearly the current stage of this transaction (e.g how much actually where you expecting from the theif who calls himself fake Secretray , Bank manager, courier company manager, Barristers and fake diplomat etc. These people are fake, please you should stop any further communication with those scammers untill we get them arrested.

But here's the kicker: the address line is

And at top and bottom were JPEGs depicting the Ontario Police Department and the seal of the City of Ontario, Southern Caifornia...

Words fail me. This does not happen often.

I always return the email and tell them that I lost 20 times that value, but if they want to send me $105 USD just for my initial compensation claim I am happy to receive it. Although, with this lad Yastreb, the cheque might end up on Mars or Narnia.

It's amazing that lads want paying up front before you know if they up to the job. I ask to see evidence of their competence before I agree to send a penny.

Wouldn't it be a lovely old world if you could send someone a bill out of the blue for work not yet tendered?

Incidentally, quite a different Lad popped up to redraw the map - when Captain Mal queried a request from a Barclays Bank Lad to send money to the Royal Bank of Scotland in Aberdeen, he was told:

C0le L0g1st1cs is the major Name and Account that is being used for lower tax payment and if it goes directly to the British Government Account the Tax rate will be very-very high and thats what am trying to avoid.

Well, he's going to get slapped - the Internal Revenue is never going to suggest something that would result in reduced tax!

After that impressive intro, the Lad dropped the ball - right under the subject header ATTENTION M4LC0LM R3YN0LDS it reads:

So get back to us with the required informations needed from you aswell as the renew and registration fee of your case file to enable us proceed further. And we hereby promise you that as soon as we hear from you, we will commence with the investigation and you will recover you fund within two weeks time.
We advise you to try your best and make the registration fee available to us, and also provide to us the needed informations as we required to enable us proceed further to the arrest of the crimininals. Note that without the registration fee we can not proceed.
You can send the registration fee to the information given to you below via money gram or western union money transfer .

According to Google maps there's a shopping mall and a Hyatt hotel at that location in Ontario. There's a Haagen-Dasz and Starbucks but no Interpol. Laughing

Maybe it's in two places at once. Agent 3mmanue1 4noka is also at the Office Of The US Interpol, Interpol Agent Department, Benin Republic District, and has the same phone number, but wants the fee sent to him in Benin, not California.

As an area code, 229 is in Georgia. But as a country code, it's Benin. So it appears that Interpol in California has a Benin phone. That's only logical. Wink

Everything about that format in silly and offensive. Why would the lad bother to start making sense now?

Ontario PD/US Interpol/Benin district. With an address in Ontario, Ca but a phone number in Benin. Even by lad standards that is goofy.
