So, I am in an interesting predicament. My baiter persona is a 22 year old heiress a la Paris Hilton and all I do is go out and party and spend my trust fund....The mugu is completely hooked and is about to reserve a room for me at (my favorite place!) the Golden Tulip in Accra, Ghana.
Throughout our correspondence, I had mentioned doing ecstacy. It was fitting in with my persona- I am a rock n roller party princess.
So anyway now the mugu wants to do a drug deal while I am there...he can get me ecstacy pills for cheap.
I believe that it would be a crime to discuss drug deals on the internet. Should I kindly tell him no? Or should I set it up and try and get the lad arrested when he shows up at the hotel with drugs?
Please let me know your opinions.

It's an odd predicament. If he is indeed telling the truth. Maybe he could provide a picture of the product with a small hand written card on the costs?

If he is serious, he's made the offer and will be his decision to take it further. Having him arrested may be a little difficult. You'd need to contact the local authorities and see if they are interested.

It's a tough one to call.

If it was me, and I believed the lad was serious, I'd steer clear or drop it completely. I don't need that kind of karma in my life.

I wouldn't normally try and bust a drug dealer... I am a big pothead meself... but being that this person is a scammer I have no problems doing it. I think there is a big difference between being a drug dealer and a scammer...at least with a drug dealer, you are getting something back for your money. A scammer, you get heartache and a drained bank account.

IF I give them a "tip". I just want to clarify that I am a pothead and I am not a snitch, but because this guy thinks I am giving him $8000 in a briefcase in exchange for a check, he deserves it! He tried to rip me off on a whole other level.
Mod, I REALLY REALLY don't want to let this one go. I've been baiting him for a while. I would rather just say no to the drug deal and go ahead with the planned transaction, but at the same time- this is a chance to earn a shiny badge under my name!
I would like to go with the poster's suggestion of having him take a pic with details next to it..so I know it is real.
I will update as to the progress.

Not wanting to dissuade, but I don't see how this would qualify for a shield, even if you did manage it.

The lad wouldn't be being arrested for advance fee fraud, and I would be against it.

I really doubt that the Accra police will do anything. I would drop the drug deal part and just continue with the bait as planned.

I think that it would be out of character of your heiress profile to refuse the drug deal out of hand.

As he seems so keen to do a deal I'd be inclined to reply that ecstasy (or whatever drug he's offering) is so out of fashion amongst the mover and shakers that you associate with, you're not interested. Anyways, you are able to get as much as you want anytime you want but if he can get his hands on some XXXXX ( a fake drug with a made up name of your choosing) you would be interested. It comes from some place in Africa
( safari opportunity??)and nobody can seem to get their hands on enough and are willing to pay big, big money. You get the drift now??

You could either find the name of some indigenous plant in some far flung part of the continent of Africa, and tell him is is distilled from the leaves/flowers picked on the night of a full moon yada, yada yada. Alternatively, he could take some organic item of your choosing and bury it in some sort of far flung part of the continent where the geology is right for changing it's chemistry into the drug, like how they make the fertiliser for biodynamic farming.

So either he is too lazy to go and get the drugs you want, so he will drop the drug deal idea from his emails. Or he is stupid enough to go and get this drug you do want, so you will get some nice trophies out of.

I guess I will write this again, since my original post didnt show up. WTF is up with that? I like to look at my posts after I post them to make sure my grammar's right, and this thing I spent 10 minutes on, is gone! Mods, if my original post shows up and this shows up, please delete one of them but as of now I can't see my original post.

ANYWAY here is the update. I am a new member and I value the opinions of the "master baiters" around here. I have dropped the drug angle and we are back to the original transaction. I just spoke with him on the phone. I am aiming for a safari. Of course the original destination is Ghana but I may get held up along the way...I will post the details if I get a safari going

Drugs? Hasn't this guy ever had an amoxycillin high?

Tell him, no, its all the new thing. You take 10000 mgrams of amoxycillin, and wash it down with a beer and 8000 mgrams of tylenol. Yeah, tell your lad to try that. Its the new rage at the clubs, everyones doing it, and its hard to get amoxycillin in (wherever your character is). Make sure he has a full bottle of antibiotics for you when you arrive! You are going to party!

With any luck, your lad will end up on dialysis.

Me, I'm a bit of a bastard, I can't see the harm in getting your lad with a pocket full of Class A's and some promotion/bribe-hungry coppers into conversation. Do we do this to hug and condone some crimes and not others? Hell no - if you get him blackmailed, beaten up or imprisoned it's only because he thinks he's going to screw more cash out of you. It's his greed that'll get him to the hotel with a suitcase of overpriced smarties.

Hey, if he's in prison for *any* reason, he's not scamming, is he? Or am I missing something?

Lads are full of crap. The only high you'd get from his drugs would be a Saccharine one.

However, you could tell him that to make sure the pills are real and of the best quality you want him to get pictures of the deal going down when he buys them. Say you've done hundreds of deals and know what proper pills and dealers look like so you'll know if he's not for real. Even if he only stages it it'll be a bit of a laugh.

If he does it and sends you the pics you could start to blackmail him with them. Wink

At this risk of being hugely pedantic, I don't think anyone should encourage anyone else to commit a crime. Certainly as far as UK law anyone who procures, incites, conspires etc to commit a crime (and drug dealing is as big a crime as they come) it is chargeable under the Criminal Attempts Act (I think, I could be wrong, I am kind of scraping the barrel from my criminal days).

Whilst I think it would be hugely funny to see this muppet banged up, I really do not think that we should be encouraging or condoning procuring an illegal activity. Sorry to be a complete killjoy, but I actually think it is pretty dangerous.

couple of points:

he will probably want money up front for the drugs, and off we go again down the usual route.

Attempting to procure drugs, or offering drugs for sale, is regarded as a serious offence in most jurisdictions, and you should probably steer clear.

^^^^Except for antibiotics. He should do a LOT of antibiotics.

Also, most pharmaceuticals can be purchased over the counter in the developing world, and there are no penalties for pharmaceutical drug possession or use. I know that ecstasy is probably illegal in Ghana, so stear clear of that.

Despite the fact this lad is already engaged in illegal activity by emailing his fraud and now claims he will sell some X... That's just him talking it up big, or maybe he does deal? You can't get into trouble for letting him big note himself. He's already a criminal, no-one has put a gun to his head and forced him to say or do anything. He's dug his own hole.

If Brass Eye can do it and fool a bunch of celebrities and an MP who raised a question in the British parliament about the 'cake' problem, then why can't we?

If the drug in question doesn't actually exist we cannot be done for inciting drug trafficking.

about the idea we can't be incited for drug trafficking, i would be cautious.
at the very least you might be invited to spend a few hours in the local police station discussing the matter,
and their lawyer might still want to get you for attempting to buy drugs.

Hmm, I don't know if we hooked a lad saying we wanted him to set up a lab for cooking cake in his kitchen, especially if you saying nothing else that culd be construed as drug talk. for example the lad tries to sell us some gear, we reply that nobody is in to that anymore, they are all too busy getting into 'doughnuts'. You are not actually saying that doughnuts gets you high, but that people really like doughnuts.
