well i got a call yesterday from an private number (some dude named M4rk Grant with UPS), after the first few seconds i decided i would play with him a little. nothing got recorded, the conversation went like so:
me: hello?
mark: hi, this is m4rk gr4nt with the united states postal service, we have an un claimed package with with your name but no address, we would like to forward this to you as soon as possible. its quite heavy. please verify your name.
me: ok, how do i go about doing this?
mark: first i will need your name for verfication.
me: [fake name], what is this package and where is it?
mark: good, this is your package then. we will need an address for shipping and a method of payment.
me: 1280 USA street, california 98001 (completely made up)
mark: given the size and weight of the package, shipping will be exactly $87.50 (or some such number). we are having some computer problems, so we can only accept money through western union money gram. (BAM!)
me: ok, what is the address and name to pay to?
mark: (quiet)
me: hello?
mark: yes, make payment to our shipping department (cant remember name or address, some florida address).
(now i just start messing with him)
me: hello?
mark: yes, (repeats above)
me: hello? are you there?
mark: yes, i am here.
me: listen, i dont like this! you call and say you have my package but wont talk to me!
mark: please calm down.
me: what?
(it goes on like this for about a min straight)
mark: (now losing his temper and speaking loudly) if you want this, pay me as soon as possible (pay "me"... not shipping department).
me: hello?
mr. mark hangs up.
thats about it, i cant remember it all... i was trying not to laugh a few times. i was out fishing so i wasnt able to write the address or anything down. just though i would share. this is the first one of these scams i have seen, got plenty of the "your car warranty is gonna expire" ones... but nothing like this. |
