Hi,

Im very new to baiting and I am so surprised at just how unbelievably stupid some of these scammers are. One lad sent me a picture of a run down English house with his company's name typed across the front in bright red Times New Roman obviously using the 'WordPaint' application on his computer.
I told another dude I wanted to borrow $12 million dollars to which he replied 'Ok, no worries, here are the forms. Send me $80 000 interest and I'll send you $12 million'. Who f*@king borrows $12 million off a complete stranger over the internet?

I just thought these guys would be a bit more clever.

I know, but somehow they steal 100's of millions of dollars internationally every year. It really does boggle the mind.

Like society in general there are very dumb ones and ones that are part of very sophisticated networks with the ability to produce fake websites, use web spiders to collect e-mail addies and mail bombing programmes.

The funniest and dumbest scammers tend to get posted, but don't think for one moment we don't hammer the smart ones too. Just take a look at the 'Fake Bank Forum'. The sites being put up for eradication aren't, for the most part, being produced and operated by the Lads balancing loaves on their heads.

We all enjoy the fun ones, but also understand that often the greater good is to take down the smart ones, but they take more time and patience and don't produce tangible results, like trophies and safaris.

Currently I'm tormenting two major gangs in Benin City, trying every which way to convince them that they are screwing up each others work. I doubt it will succeed in setting them at eacj others throats but it is making life difficult for them and causing them problems.

No - they aren't all dumb and some are more sophisticated than a lot of members here. They earn money from what they do - I/we don't so they have good reason to get smart.

GomerPyle (if that is your real name Wink ),

Going after a smarter crew of scammers is going to be more challenging, more interesting and probably more productive in the long run.

Horses for courses I guess. I did see the pics of the scammer with bread on his head and I did piss myself laughing. That said, I also spent way too long faking up a nice set of company expenditure spread sheets the other night to send to a 'smarter than your average scammer' the other night to prove I was a legit businessman with heaps of dosh, as he seems to be a crafty bastard.

^^I'll pretend to loan you 12 million if you send me 80K. Does that make me stupid? Wink

Scammers really do come in all shapes and sizes. Everything from desperate, uneducated teens to highly organized and intricate gangs. Interestingly, victims come in all shapes and sizes too. I've had contact with victims who are clearly impaired and shouldn't be allowed to use computers, and I've had contact with well educated, successful victims I never would have imagined would be at risk. It depends a lot on the type of scam too. Romance scams and check scams seem to be wide open. Even inheritance scams can be very effective if they are accurately targeted and well executed.

Hi chloelickitgood, welcome. Smart is a relative term. I think it is dangerous to lump all scammers into a category. I urge you to read around a bit, look at the baits and even the resourcefulness of some of the lads.

People are people and we each have our strenghs and weaknesses. We try to minimize their strengths and exploit their weakensses. We work real hard to NOT educate the lads, that makes them better at their craft and hurts victims.

I would be very careful if doing that because the lad will turn right around and use it on a victim to convince the victim he is a business man with heaps of cash.

Scammers are very resourceful and will use anything and everything given to them to scam victims.

I never send anything that could look real and be used by a scammer to hurt and convince victims the scammer is for real.

I don't for a second think scammers are stupid.

They can speak multiple languages, run multiple scams, and make lots of money from scamming many people.

Sure some scammers might not "seem" bright and then their are some that are criminal master minds.

In my opinion they are all manipulative and very dangerous.

To underestimate the enemy is not a good idea.

Lads are quite capable of getting their own photos off the net so it's not usually a problem to pick some little known celebrity or soap characters who'll have a good selection of pics to choose from.

This is one of my favourites.
