Missing person email "Claudia Lawrence" - scam?

This email landed in my HotMail catcher account.

The only emails that I receive there are from lads, so I assume that
this is some kind of scam.

The email wants to set up a "chain letter" email for somebody named
"Claudia Lawrence", who is a real missing person (in England).

I removed two links from the email which were supposedly photographs,
from a company called http://www.fwdpr0jects.c0m.

I am not sure what the scheme is, can anyone enlighten me?

Subject: Missing person - Claudia Lawrence, please help.

Dear all,

This is a genuine call for help to find a missing person - "Claudia
Lawrence" sent on behalf of her family - it is nothing to do with sales or
money. Please read on...

As some of you will be aware by now, the family of Claudia Lawrence is
going through a very difficult time right now, as Claudia has now been
missing for four weeks.

Claudia's Mum last spoke with Claudia on the evening of 18th March. On the
19th March she was due to arrive at the University of York (North of
England) where she was a Chef. Claudia didn't make it to work and she has
not been seen since.

It seems to her family, that she left for work as normal on the 19th early
that morning (around 5.15am). They then believe she has been abducted by
someone, either by a stranger or more likely, by someone she knew. The
family is 100% certain she has been taken against her will.

As you can imagine, this is a horrendous time for the family and
particularly because they feel like there is little they can do to help.

However, they want to start an email chain to help the campaign to find
Claudia. The Police have so far concentrated their efforts around York
where Claudia went missing but she could now be anywhere in the country or
perhaps abroad (although she has not got a Passport with her) - which makes
it so important for us to widen the net.

With this email, we have included a link to download a PDF of Claudia and
also a GIF flash file that the Police have sent to mobile phone users (this
may or may not work on your computer - it should be a rotating picture).

Please could you all take 5 minutes now to forward this email onto as many
friends and contacts that you have email addresses for. Please then ask
them to do the same with their friends and contacts as well - and so on...
It should be a good way to raise exposure for Claudia.

Alright Cowboy, The missing girl is a real case in the UK. The 0845 number does go direct to North Yorkshire Police Operations.

Not sure if this email is a scam, but her case is being investigated as being the object of at least one. And I know that scamming victims' families, and setting up bogus "help sites" has occurred to other victims, as well.

Since the Metro Police seem to be in charge of the case, they should know if this is a real plea, or another scam.
