I've got a trunk box bait going. The lad is doing a no up-front money scam where supposedly all fees are paid including shipment to my character's doorstep. Of course at the last minute cash is required to get the package through NYC customs ($650).

Any way, I've dealt with 3 characters so far, the initial lad, shipping company and now the diplomat carrying the package. All emails originate from Abidijan.

Diplomat just emailed me (supposedly held up in NYC) telling me to send the money via WU to a rather unlikely place..Pry0r, OK which is a few miles outside of Tulsa. Just goes to show you that lad's accomplices can be almost anywhere!

Limburger,

You are as likely to have a victim there as an accomplice. Lots of the addresses in the US you get will either trace to a romance scam victim thinking he/she is innocently helping their love, or will trace to a mule who believes they are working for some company processing payments.

If you haven't already, please PM the US info to a mod, as they may be able to magically sort out whether there is a victim and if so, use their connections to get the victim warned.

WU payments can be collected anywhere in the world with little or no ID. The US address is just to make the scam more convincing, and there's no reason to think there's a lad or victim in Pry0r.

^^ That's something I was not aware of. I thought the way WU worked was that payments could only be picked up at the destination city (or at least general area) it was sent to.

I recall reading a bait where the baiter deliberately sent the lad's funds via WU to the neighboring country to madden the lad and delay the transaction. I think this is why I thought WU worked that way.

^^ Just because you can pick it up anywhere, doesn't mean we tell lads that. Additionally, since we control the 'payment', we control the details.
