Hi guys! I'm new to the forum so kindly redirect me if I'm posting in the wrong place. I wanted to let you all know about a scam I recently discovered.

There was an ad in the newspaper about a 2 year old dog with the email address [email protected]. Upon emailing the "owner" you will receive a response that the guy is a missionary living in Africa and cannot keep the dog, and he also has another dog, both of which are free to a good home... you just have to split the shipping cost with him.

I know this is probably an old one but I thought someone here might have fun with it. Please let me know if anyone converses with this guy! I'd love to hear about it.

I have edited the email address out of the OP because we only allow them when the full particulars of the scam are included (the lad's format as well as the headers). This is to ensure that only lads are targeted. Feel free to post the full email in the Surplus Letters forum.

Unfortunately puppy scams are big business. The stories vary but the results are invariably the same -- fees needed to cover shipping, or vet bills, or customs fees, or whatever. These are insidious scams because, like romance scams, they prey on good people's emotions. No one can accuse such victims of greed.

The reason why the above policy exists is because people could make posts similar to yours, with their (insert anyone they hate... ex, coworker, boss, etc)'s email.

Took it upon myself to inquire about his puppies.
Here's what I got.

He's in gmail, so no header info really. He also attached a few pictures of a young Yorkie.

Thanks for the interest getting my puppies. Kindly note that i have 2
yorkies,one male and one female which i'm willing to get a new home for.

The male is named jack while the Female is named kati,jack is 14 weeks old
while kati is 13 1/2 weeks old ,and jack weigh 2.5lbs while kati weigh
3lbs.Also, it was due to my missionary call that make me want to get them a
new home. Me my three kids together with the pups are here in Africa for
our missionary call.

So, after a while, i noticed that the weather here in Africa is very bad for
the pups health and i'm thinking to get them a new home back to the state.
Also, please be informed that i'm not selling this pups to you but i'm
giving them away for free to a good home where they'll be at rest and cared
for.

I don't know if you'll prefer to take both pups or you prefer to take either
the male or female,but i will be glad if you can take them both because i
have never separated them before and them love each other so much. Please
let me know if you can create a good home for the pups.

Kindly note that you and i will be splitting out the shipment cost of the

A colleague of mine was nearly scammed by one of them - I am awaiting information from her so I can bait this guy. However much I dislike pets, I understand other people can grow quite attached to them, and it is a stupid thing to capitalise upon.

I told a friend of mine about the email and he introduced me to this site after I'd already tossed the newspaper in the trash. Next time I'll make sure to get a picture of it.

I would be sure to inform him that I work with rescued dogs, and no one should give away intact purebreds for free. Of course you want to pay him an adoption fee.

But what do you do when they ask for your name and address to ship the dogs? Give them a fake one? The address of a McDonalds?

I've emailed and asked him if his dogs are circus trained to play the piano. As I'm sure he knows, it's illegal to adopt a dog in Utah without training it in piano.

What's more... Here in Holland the dog's need to be trained to use the bathroom (just like we do), and there needs to be photographic proof to support his claim that they are trained.

The lad does know that prior to shipping he needs to fill out a of bunch of complicated forms and spend a bit of money, doesn't he?

Beautiful forms~! I've informed my lad that due to my being in Utah I will need scanned vet papers and a photo of one of the pups on the piano... I can tweak these forms to be Utah certified I'm sure.

Give them a fake address. You don't want to give them an address of an innocent third party (mcdonalds)

You can make a really fake sounding address and they'll usually not say anything about it. Always use a fake name and an email address that isn't tied to any real email of yours.

He isn't a very good scammer. These puppies probably cost 800$ - 1200$ each from a reputable AKC breeder.

You also need him to scan and send the AKC papers, since you've been duped by backyard breeders before and got dud puppies. It would be fun to see him send some Googled pedigrees of St.Bernards that were born in 1999.

^^^ Did you get any kennel club papers? He told me that he didn't have access to a scanner, so I got him to send me the dog's kennel names and the details of their parents.

It's good to know that the puppies are well taken care of though, they have had all of their innoculations and
