Lagos - Douala 746km / 446 miles
Douala - Lagos 746km / 446 miles (not completed yet)

Total flight distance: 1492km / 892 miles

Road distances:

Douala - Yaounde 234km / 145 miles
Yaounde - Mundemba 445km / 276 miles
Mundemba - Kumba 100km / 62 miles
Kumba - Douala 111km / 69 miles (not completed yet)

Total road distance: 890km / 553 miles

I am going to probe him using my judge character to see if he still believes in his inheritance. If he provides a positive response, there might even be a chance to continue this bait. I don't think that he falls for it anymore, but it's worth trying - it's just one email.

The money he spent is very difficult to estimate, but here is something:

Flights $339
Passport $150 (can't be verified, but I assume it is correct as he was supposed to give Fanny a receipt)

This is the hotel he stayed in Yaounde: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L86C3q1SH3M , I found average rate of $93 for that hotel, so that would add $186

It is unknown where he spent one night when he was chasing the camp. There isn't much information about Kumba accommodation either, so it is impossible to estimate costs of his stay there. I tried to Google public transport costs in Cameroon to get estimate of his transport costs, no luck.

He also bought a SIM card, which he described to be very expensive. I don't know how much actual money that is.

He claims that he had to go to hospital after injury. This can't be confirmed and it is also unknown how much he had to pay for hospital bills if he was telling the truth.

He wrote that he has spent a total of $1,600. This seems a bit high, but if he had to pay expensive bill at the hospital then maybe it could be possible.

Fanny can leave hospital tomorrow and is willing to meet him. Unfortunately she can't be in Kumba before 1-1.30PM. If 0loye wants to meet, he has to miss his flight.

Edit: @Doc, can you email him and request a detailed report about his costs for his refund, that might be interesting?

Well he has a lot of nerve! He told Fanny it would be impossible to email today. He said there is no place open with internet service, he said the hotel doesn't have internet service and at any rate he didn't even have a penny to pay for internet service.

Fanny urged him to email copies of his receipts to her (I was hoping we could get some verification of how much he actually spent). He said he couldn't for the above reasons.

I can't find any record of the hotel he claims to be at. Can you question him further on this?

He has more or less agreed that SSC should refund him by WU. If SSC requests the details for their records to make the payment, he might comply quite easily.

We always offer mugu a full refund of all unexpected safari expenses, however we must, MUST, have copies of all of his receipts.

I would also be intrigued how he would respond if we offered him compensation of his accident on the Mundemba road.
I feel certain that our insurance policy would cover this, but again, we need full information about what misfortunes befell our intrepid jungle Jim....... Laughing

Great safari, all! He suffered, ate nothing for a couple days, ran out of cash completely, and relied on the kindness of strangers. Plus, fell of the motorcycle on the muddy, rut-filled road. Another great phonecall! Very Happy

It never ceases to amaze me how a lad on safari always manages to find someone to assist them to get back home. I hope he at least had enough to buy post cards at his various stops. It would be a shame if he had nothing to remember his trip by. Laughing

Let's not forget the he most likely borrowed the money to go on safari in the first place and he's going home empty handed and humiliated.
