Hi all,
My sister has just received an envelope through the snail mail that has her husbands name and their address on it. It is a lottery scam coming out of South Africa. I am wondering how someone might have gotten their home address. It is not a post office box, and they live in the country. I asked them about having their address online someplace and she said no it wasn't. Any ideas on how they might have gotten that address.
I did tell them to turn the letter over to the post office.

Yeh I have had one of these before. Basically they get a phone book for the area (most big libraries will have them, or online phone books are everywhere), then they pick out a name they like, and it brings back their phone number and address.
The one I got actually had instructions on how to pass the letter on to strangers using the same technique.
Have to remember, these scams were running before the internet came along, so there is no need to have their details on the internet when the phone company will publish your information for the world to see. |

I'd keep it with the envelope in a frame. In years to come when we have no paper left to burn and only pee cee's and other dysfunctional apparatus to communicate it will become a collectors item from a bygone era. |
