About a year ago I had a lad send me $3,000 in fake $100 USD Bills in a Job Scam. Since then I have tried to get more counterfeits from most of the lads I bait and I have been successful a couple more times. I just came up with a pretty good script convincing the lads I will work with them changing the counterfeit bills into real money and I have received a big response. I tell them for however much money they send me in fake money I will send them back 50% of it in real money. I of course have no intentions of keeping the money or helping the lads I just like separating the lads from their money. All the counterfeit bills I received so far have been immediately sent to my local Secret Service Office. Should I stay away from purposely receiving these bills in the mail? I'm afraid the Secret Service might be knocking on my door one day if one of the packages is intercepted by customs. If I explain what I'm doing do you think they won't mind since I have been turning them in?

It appears to me that you are using your real life contact information with the criminals. That is not a good idea n and of itself. However, you are also dealing with counterfeit money, which, to me, is a worrisome thing.

You can make a "counterfeit" stenci and spray paint ALL of the bills as they arrive, but.. the possibility of the USPS finding some exists, and with your genuine contact information... might get you visitors.

I suggest that you PM a mod with more details. Bait safely!

I do give out the address to my P.O. Box which I know isn't the smartest thing but that is the extent of the real info they receive. The P.O. Box is almost an hour away from where I live and I only use it for baiting. The only people I'm really worried about knocking on my door is the police or secret service. Thank you for your input.

So if you've already handed them in then they know about you and where you had gotten them from. Plus they would have put in a room to explain where they came from and had you sign all sorts of paper work. So if they know about you then why would they come knocking? I'm pretty sure you can be charged for receiving counterfeit notes intentionally.

Plus, I think this type of question is best answered by, A) You, and B) Your Secret Service contact who you have been sending all the bills too.

Scan a few for us to see. I'm curious.

^^^ I always mailed in the bills I received and never delivered them in person so I didn't get the chance to speak with anyone. The S.S.'s website listed the address of my states office and that's where I mailed them. I guess if I ever receive anymore I will drop them off in person or give them a call first so I can ask them any questions I have. The first 2 times I received the bills I started threads and posted pictures so you can still view them if you like. Thank you for your comments!

I would have nothing to do with this if I was you.

A friend of mine was hauled over the coals some years back, for receiving counterfeit money when a notorious gang were getting rid of the lolly they had printed by buying antiques and paintings.

He was completely innocent but you would think he was the ring leader after the grilling he got. The amounts they had spent were relatively small but the police are particularly humourless when it comes to this sort of thing, and telling them you are a scambaiter will cut no ice.

You could just laugh when you see what the lads have produced saying no one would fall for them they are so bad. Chopping a dollar to make some slight but significant changes and sending it to them will help your case.

I'd say you've done it and got the trophys, now move on to something less risky. Wink

Personally I'd drop it - theft, extortion, scamming are serious and unpleasant crimes but you can demonstrate the high ground easily as a baiter. But if the government agencies catch you forging notes (or having to prove it wasn't you receiving regular packages from a known forgery ring in Africa) you're going right to the core of the lifeblood of the national economy - they take it VERY seriously. And you have no way to prove that for the few hundred $ you sent them that you haven't kept a few tens of thousands $ that you've sent to your accomplices - even the interrogation would make this not worthwhile to my mind. If you decide to continue, the secret service won't be much help when the Customs and Excise kick your door down, so they're the ones you want to talk to.

The most valuable thing scammers can send you is their time - work towards getting them on safari, tell them you'll meet them in Sudan for an exchange of trunk boxes or something - get them on the road and away from their den of thieves Smile

Then call them from a public phone if you're concerned and ask them. See what they say. In the meantime I wouldn't be accepting any counterfeit money at all. If customs pick it up and they'll send around the feds. I doubt the defense, 'I'm baiting them' will change anything.

I could imagine the Secret Service would be very interested in scammer sending counterfeit money through the post. To be honest, you're probably already on a watch list if they've scanned the package, found notes and sent them on their way to see who picked them up. Not to scare you or anything. Sorry.

I'm sure 1 call to the secret service could clear this all up for you. If they tell you it's not a problem, make sure you get the name of the officer that told you that...

Really seems like law enforcement could really make a much bigger difference by working with baiters, too bad they don't see it that way...

If I were you, I would just get your lads to send the notes straight to whichever organisation is best placed to do something about it. If the lads Google the address and start asking questions, you could always claim to be a bent employee who knows how the system works and how to abuse it, or whatever.

FWIW if I worked in law enforcement and I came across you doing what you're doing, then at best I would regard you as treading on my toes, and at worst I would wonder whether there might be more to this than meets the eye (ref manbiteslion). Either way, I would not feel inclined to make life easy for you. There is just something basically dodgy about people soliciting large amounts of forged dollaz, for whatever reason.

Thank you everyone for all your responses. After reading what everyone has to say about it I don't think I will be trying to take anymore counterfeit bills away from the lads. Like some have mentioned I was thinking of just having the lads send the bills straight to the S.S. office but I don't think I want to screw around with this at all anymore. I will just stick to screwing with the lads in a more traditional manner. I really do wish there was something more I could do with this though because these bills are really good and they are going to cost a lot of people a lot of money.

Interesting situation. As others have said, it sounds very risky. The only way I would consider doing it is to work transparently with law enforcement. Even then, it still seems risky, considering factors like poor communication between agencies, different jurisdictions, etc.

I would be curious to hear how someone at the secret service would advise you. Maybe you could make an anonymous call and pose it as a hypothetical question.

I have to say, in my time here, I don't believe I've come across this. You must have some high-end lads there. Most of the lads I've come across can't even make a convincing Certificate of Trustyness. Where are they operating out of?

I'm in the UK, so laws may be slightly different, but I wouldn't want to have any counterfeit money in my possession or sent to me, for any reason or however poorly printed (thinking of not only illegal money, but money laundering and anti-terrorism laws.).

@ Julian Day, After listening to everyones advice I'm not going to receive any money from the lads.

@ Luckey, I think I will call the S.S. today from a payphone and ask them a few "hypothetical" questions. Also, some of the lads that deal in this do seems a little smarter then your average guyman. Here is a reply from one lad interested in working with me:

As you can see his vocabulary is a little better then the lads you usually come across. All the lads I've met that deal with counterfeits have been from Nigeria and Ghana. You would be surprised to find though that most lads know of or can get these bills. Most don't deal with them because they are expensive. The bills are made from real $1 USD bills that are bleached then reprinted to be $100 bills. They do this because the paper is the hardest thing to duplicate and it will pass some security test like the black marker.
