I'm new at the game and have 2 going at this time. As usual, they're asking for passport, etc. I sent a large .dll file renamed passport.jpg and passport.pdf but they're insisting on an ID they can open. My first try stopped emailing when I didn't send an ID. Any suggestions?

I normally send an email saying photo attached and then add the following to the bottom -

<Hom3land S3curity have removed a jpeg file from this email under S3ction 12 P4ragraph 32c of the Patriot Act. Transmission of Identification documents is forbidden>

Never had a lad drop me because I couldn't provide Id, they normally give up asking after a while.

It's a bit late, I know... but I tell my Lads that passports are privileged documents under Federal/Commonwealth law and stand my ground - eventually offering a passport number instead.

Another alternative is to change the extension to ".zip" (zip file). When Winzip can't open the document, as it inevitably can't, you can then send over a whole lot of confusing encryption passwords. Of course if you send a genuine zip file which is encrypted so much the better.

After all, in these times you can't be too careful, everything should be encrypted particularly personal ID information. Eventually most lads give up and say that the ID was good and they proceed to the next part of their scam which is always to ask for money.

I like to send a COPIED dll, and tell the mugu that it is encrypted for security reasons. Then, provide detailed instruction concerning how to decrypt it. Slap him when he can't decode it.

Another option is "I don't have a scanner". Offer to buy a scanner if it is really necessary. Get sidetracked in lots of details about the purchase, the installation, etc. Then, eventually, it does not work and you are back to square one.

Another option - "I don't have a passport". Offer to obtain one if necessary. Get sidetracked with lots of questions about how to get a passport, etc.

Offer to fax it to them (they have to pay to pick up faxes if it's not an e-fax number) and fax blank sheets, send tiny thumbnails, anything but a real ID - as the longer this goes on, the longer they're not extorting money from you, they *will* give up eventually and carry on with their script!

my experience is, that lads do not really insist on a passport scan. They ask for it only to see, if you are serious. Somehow they seem to have figured, that "jokers" would not provide a passport. So you are not meant to actually *send* a passport, but to convince the lad, that you are *seriously trying* to do so. Send him some pictures of your self together with a renamed DLL in a zip-file. Tell him about your technical problems with scanning and ask for a snail mail adress where you can send a hardcopy. Ask him for a fax number and send anything blurry to that number or simply provide fake-fax-protokolls proving you sent it. The list of ideas is long, use your creativity to convince a lad, that you really mean business - and he will never drop you Cool

Yeah, and offering a passport number, adress and banking details (all fake of course) will help, too.
