So, as you all know my scam letter posts have been less than steady in the last few months. The reason is, of course, that i'm just not compelled to do it anymore. It takes up an enormous amount of time just sorting through all these mails, over an hour for about a week of mails, and i don't really feel like i get any reward for it. To add to that, the longer i wait with posting, the more letters there are waiting to be posted which makes me even less compelled to do it.

Also, i've hardly posted anywhere else on the forum, much so because i'm too tired to read much of it after i've been spent so long time posting all of these mails.

Now there's been a change to the forum software meaning that posts above a certain size are snipped without any warning, which rendered about half of my most recent work ruined - i always delete the actual letters right after i posted them, and only noticed after i had made a few threads. While this isn't the only reason, that was truly the last drop and i'm giving up this pointless and time consuming activity once and for all.

So, this is going to mean i still have my main harvesting account which is seeden on numerous guestbooks around the web and gets about 100 letters per day, which only seems to be increasing recently. About 10% of the letters i post are to my other, "real" mail adresses, but this adress acccounts for the vast majority of letters i post on here. So now i'm giving up to whoever is the worty heir of this incredible resource.

I'm not so sure there's anyone willing to take up the herculean task of posting all of them on here, but i'm sure someone here might get other uses out of it, perhaps with a more efficient automatic archiving system.

So, here and now i want your applications to why YOU are the worthy heir of this Hotmail account, guaranteed for a foreseeable time in the future to recieve more scam letters than any sane human being can handle! Just post a bit about what you're going to do with it, how, and why i should believe you Razz

No software change that I am aware of. I can get it from the Rover's mouth if you wish. I'll drop him a quick PM and get him to clear that one up for you.

Which bit? The sorting of scam mails and posting them in Surplus forum, or scambaiting as a whole? If the latter, I understand how overwhelming it can be. We're severely out-numbered, but there might be quite a few of us (including the many other sites) who wouldn't consider baiting to be pointless. Yes, time consuming.

Why don't you forward all the email from your hotmail to a service like this? http://www.dodgeit.com/ someone would need to donate to the service to get password and unlimited mail features.

That dodgit thing looks interesting. You set up a throwaway account by just typing in a username: [email protected] and any mail sent to that address can be freely accessed and seen by anyone that knows the addy.
Trouble is, the addy is only usable for a week before it gets deleted. Might have some use though.

Basically its a read only email service that can be passworded so baiters can view it and collect email addys to send to lads.

A few people could have access to the admin area to sort/delete emails etc. Seems easier than copy and pasteing to surplus?

It looks to me that what is needed is an expert that can set up some kind of auto junk filter that can do the extraction for you.
I know nothing about the mechanics of how this would work but there ought to be some way of parsing the vital information from the messages and presenting it in a usable format for baiters?

Step forward the previously mentioned experts....

You mean an auto-email-fisher that takes mails, sifts them for addies, and then sends an auto "im interested, please tell me more?" reply? Would be nice, but unfortunately my programming skillz are far below that... Finally you'd need some kind of thingy that senses if there is a reply, and if, then it should forward it... Or wait, you can simply send the message as coming from someone else (hey, Telnet can do anything, right?)... If you get an answer there you have a. a working bait, b. skipped the first boring reply. Someone please make an automatic script that sends semi-preprogrammed replies so we can handle thousands of lads at the same time Razz

Well, I'm not so sure on the 'do it all for you' bit, but it should be able to extract the e-mail addresses and general details of the e-mail and produce a synopsis for baiters to have a look at without too much human intervention.

and I hope someone can put together a script, to extract the adresses, subject and the first 3 or 4 lines of text.

@ Herp - I have a new catcher-account that is lonely, so if you forward the mails, I can handle that for some time. but I am not able to continue the whole work that you did. but if no other is here, I can do it for some time.

and - today I have extracted the adresses out of your compilation, it can be found in surpluus.

^ enable labs, save settings changes
create new mail with whatever message you want -- subject, cc, to, bcc appear not to be saved
from 'canned responses' drop down click 'new canned response' and give it a new
create a new filter, you'll notice the canned response action, pick by the name you recently assigned
save filter

phpBB is common, perhaps a phpBB mod (not short for moderator) that would fetch mail via IMAP from gmail, parse, and post as a bot to surplus. the parsing bit would probably be beyond the scope of the forum module. RL has me speaking with engineers and programmers being neither myself.

I tried dodgit.com and it works.

It neatly displays the incoming addies which can easily be filtered from the page using the script in my javascripts toolkit. You can't delete the mails manually but that's not a big problem. Just collect a weeks worth of lads for some serious mass mailing at the weekend.

I'm going to seed a few guestbooks later to see how it goes.

From what I understand it'll remain active as long as you check in at regular intervals.

Do what I do. When I can't be bothered checking a catcher account with a few thousand scams and spams I just close it. We've all got a few catchers, one less is no big loss.

Honestly Herp, the only eater members I can imagine that will put it to any use will be the newbies.
I have'nt even been at this hobby for a year and I am already swamped with scam mails (50 to 100 a day).

If you really truly feel as though you would be wasting a good catcher account, my only suggestion would be for you to send the details off to one of the mods and let them decide what use it should be put towards.
