No, no self-mutilation, stupid me was defying all common sense and using a razor-sharp cutter knife to try to pry open a credit-card sized usb memory stick.
Result is a 6 cm jaw in my hand palm, down into the muscle. Luckily no main arteries, tendons or nerves were harmed.
Six stitches and (after anesthesia faded out) annoying pain (plus half a day away from work) is what I ended up with. And a tetanus shot in my arm and my but, provided for by a young female student nurse Embarassed

Must remind myself ALWAYS USE FORCE ON KNIFE IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF BODILY PARTS!

One of my younger brothers did that. The box cutter went into his thigh... ruined a good pair of blue jeans.

I hope it heals well and you find those scissors...

...with the rounded ends. Wink

Sorry to hear of your pain. You are lucky not to have Reprob8 hanging around you PMing requests for spare Vicodin. I use scissors on clam shell packing now. When I'm without my scissors, I use the serrated portion of my Tanto.

Having done something similar once,trust me,you will never do it again.I did it on my wrist,and thankfully missed everything important.The guy I was working with did however comment how cool it was to watch the tendons move as I flexed my fingers.

A friend of mine did this whilst cutting two burgers apart. When they put his severed nerves back together they wired they wrong fingers up. He was dropping stuff for months until his brain reconfigured.

This is true

here in Australia there is a bloke who is running a political campaign
to have all sharp points removed from sharp knives so all knives are rounded at the front and blunt

I happen to carry a 3cm long scar in my left palm since my childhood Smile

Some years ago now, most of my left thumb and I parted company after I tried to open a timber crate with a power saw Shocked

... not my brightest moment.. my thumb now resides in a glass jar full of preservative on a book shelf in the lounge room... so don't feel to bad.

A friend of mine and I were nailing siding onto wooden studs one morning when he mashed his thumb with a hammer. Later that afternoon he was up on a ladder and did the the same thing again. He fell from the ladder like a sack of potatoes and curled up in a fetal position around his thumb. He couldn't make a sound because the wind was knocked out of him.

If you pound nails long enough your one thumb starts to look like a big toe.

This is the memory card I was trying to squeeze open.

I wanted to see if the memory chip itself was hidden inside the tilting plug, or in the actual card. I was hoping that is was in the plug itself, so I could use it as a permanent Readyboost (Vista boot speedup thingy) memory chip that wasn't sticking out too much out of the usb port.
The card is made of 3 layers (1 plastic, 2 metallic) glued together.

As far as I can see it's in the card, connected with a tiny cable. Even though the casing is all bent now, it still works (luckily Confused

I didn't cut it when the knife slipped away).
So far my Readyboost plans. Cut my hand for nothing.

I tempted faith and finally opened the card (without the use of anything sharp this time Smile

) . There are actually 2 tiny cables.
What's in there seems totally unusable for the intended job (unless I go into some major hardware tweaking which I don't want to attempt):
