Jakarta: A fish that bounces on the ocean floor like a rubber ball has been classified as a new species, named psychedelica. The frogfish – which is covered with tan and peach stripes – was discovered off the coast of Ambon island in eastern Indonesia by scuba diving instructors, and was featured in a paper in the American scientific journal Copeia. It has several unique traits, such as its chaotic way of bouncing around the ocean floor, partly caused by its off-centred tail and leg-like fins. (AP) |
