Question about Gmail

From what I understand about Gmail, it does not reveal your IP address, thus its safe to bait from it as most lads cannot see your true location. Is the same true if you configure that Gmail account in a SMTP client such as Thunderbird, or MS Outlook? The reason I'm interested in this is because I'm finding it a burden to keep up with various e-mail addresses and their passwords in use for baiting. Any info would be helpful.

I don't think it hides your IP if you use another mail program. I've heard that some people use a gmail manager addon for firefox that works really well.

If you use firefox you can add an extension called gmail manager.
works a treat. youi can only onpen one account at a time but it shows what account have mail on your desktop.

I think Ima means if you use Outlook and configure it SMTP, it won't hide your IP.

I disagree, because it goes through the same servers. I don't think you need to use the web interface.

Yes you do.

Gmail does not hide the IP address of mail it receives by SMTP.

It's to do with obeying the letter of the technical specifications and so forth. Mail received by SMTP must result in a Received header being added to the mail. There is no such requirement for mail received by HTTP (ie on the web), as there is no written specification for that.

Is there a gmail manager thingy that works with IE?

I don't fancy installing Firefox on my PC.

I don't think that there is anything so sophisticated with IE ...Bill Gates never got round to making one.

Go on ....bite the bullet and change over to FF ! ..... I held off until about three months ago and never looked back since. ..... even without add-ons G-mail is so much faster.

If you want to use an SMTP client with Gmail and still hide your IP address, you can either use an anonymization service such as Tor, or you can use an SMTP-to-HTTP converter such as gmailsmtp.py from libgmail.

@ ILoveCrapfloods, that sounds good. I like the SMTP clients, it seems that you can better sort your different addresses with message rules and separate folders. I'll look those up as soon as I get home. Laughing
