Having had ( and so sadly lost)a little niece whos tragically too short life was only possible by having access to healthy blood by way of transfusion, I want to say thank you so much to you and everyone else who gives blood - I had many months of joy and associated happy memories that I would never have otherwise had. I too met many other families whose children only survived because they were able to receive transfusions - never underestimate how important giving blood is. I salute you

As a trauma/ER/ICU RN, two causes closest to my heart are organ donation and blood donation. You can and do make the difference between life and death for many, many people.

Mr Tamborine Man: If I did my calculations right, if you gave whole blood every 56 days (that's the minimum where I live) to get to 90 pints it would have taken you about 14 years. Holy cow! Good job! bow_down

I only have half that and I thought I was doing good (but I only donate for the cookies afterward. Wink

)

Giving blood is so important.
Especially to cancer patients.
A lot of times the chemotherapy drops the blood count of the patient and
without transfusions by wonderful generous people like Mr. Tambourine Man they wouldnt make it.

My mother has cancer and has had numerous chemotherapy rounds.
She is still alive after three years because of generous donors.

So THANK YOU Mr. Tambourine Man and other wonderful donors! Very Happy

It's good to know there are still people out there willing to donate. I haven't been able to donate for over a year now. I donated right before finding out I was pregnant, and haven't been able to since thanks to low iron. I hope to be able to donate again soon though Very Happy

Good job, and thank you. My son needed a blood transfusion about a week and a half after he was born, so donors really do mean a lot to me.

My first time - I passed out, had had nothing to eat!. Sadly I got stopped from giving on medical grounds some years back.

That was 15 years ago and I have given blood maybe 6 times. It has been about 3 since I gave.

I don't recall that it was ever brought up. Shocked

In Australia there is some rule about if you had been in the UK during a certain time they exclude you from donating and I think that is because of Mad cow disease.

I may of course be mistaken as I have never actually been in the UK so I wouldn't have paid too much attention Crying or Very sad
