Can any one tell me if this is safe to use??

It's probably safe, but I wouldn't waste too much money on it. A registry cleaner will not remove any viruses.

If you have a virus infection, get a good antivirus package and make sure that is running properly with the latest updates. You don't have to spend money on that either, AVG or Avast are very good and free for personal use. I prefer Avast (www.avast.com).

If you look around a bit on the net you can find freeware registry cleaners that do the job (look for 'freeware', not for 'free download'). Don't expect too much gain from it anyway. If you system is getting too slow, in my experience, re-installing the OS from scratch is the best (if not the only) way to get your system responding normally again. Don't forget to backup your data first (need this be said?)

I have (www.avast.com). allready and run it regulary but itis not showing any thing disce defrag looks so so and NN sent me a link and it showed 561 virises but would only remove 20 and you had to buy the up grade to remove the others Evil or Very Mad

Ad-Aware from Lavasoft has a free Ad and spyware remover tool that is also very good at helping to remove viruses not to mention spyware from your computer. I have seen it catch things a virus scan missed.

You can download it directly from Lavasoft's website.

Dont pay nothing to noone. I'm sure between us we can sort you out with free software to purify your PC.

When you search Google, you ofetn get sites that suddenly want money for what you thought was a free product.

Have a look at this one:

I ran it and it cleaned up all sorts of kak. Do back up anything important first, in case it all goes horribly wrong.

Notwithstanding all the expertise we have here, you may want to try the Tech Monkeys.

Based in the UK these guys run a forum just like this one and solve no end of problems. It's free but I always make a contribution - great people.

make a back up if you use windows registry cleaner. Sometimes it deletes something you should not delete

How often do most of you defrag your hard drive? Some one told me this should be done monthly but I only do it about once every six months or so.

Way, way, way back when I had a bad experience with defragmenting. I was using Norton speed disk and that along with Go Back destroyed my hard drive. I had to choose to overwrite or move some partitions or whatever so I wouldn't do that again but I still have a bit of a defrag phobia. My goodness that was almost ten years ago. Maybe it's time for me to move on Laughing

Those free registry or virus scans always find something. Even if you buy what they are selling and use it, if you do another scan it will still find problems.

After updating no script today, I found the below on their site

^^^ yer easy to use then it tells me i need to buy to get rid of bla bla bla the one roy sent me didnt cost a dime and my puter is working fine since i ran it ????. so are some free scans bull shyting about problems just to get you to buy???????

^^ Yes there are lots of them. Spyware checkers, virus checkers, file restore proggies, all abusing ignorance of a PC user in panic. Never allow an unknown program to scan your PC, you could end up in a bigger mess than you were in before.

Defragging is not something that you need to do to make your computer work. It just makes it work a little faster. I do not believe any computer ever crashed as a result of fragmentation. I have never even seen a speed improvement from defragging, although theoretically there should be one.

Depending on how full your disk is, it might be a good idea to run it more or less frequently; a full disk gets more fragmented than a half-empty one.

I never defragged more than once a year, and I always had a full disk. Mind you that was on Win 95 and 2000, so I was likely using FAT rather than NTFS, but I don't think there is much difference in fragmentation.

Now I'm on Linux I don't need to bother. Those file-systems do not suffer from it.

All available from download.com, I've run them all on computers with XP and with Vista, and never had many problems. AVG can sometimes crash itself and needs reinstalled, but apart from that, its decent. AVAST slowed my computer down at startup, but it picks up bugs that my other programs miss.

Spybot and Ad-Aware do mostly the same thing, but if you've run an anti-virus first, they shouldn't pick up anything. Malwarebytes is one that was recommended to me here, and I would swear by it now, since it finds any odd bits and pieces.

I'd also recommend CCleaner, which cleans out your internet history and temporary files where some virus's can lurk. It also cleans out the registry, and I prefer it over Registry Mechanic, which I think has gone pay.

Also - one of those scams was the first virus my parents computer got. Windows 2009, everytime they started the computer, it found a mythical number of viruses, and wanted them to pay money to get rid of them. Luckily, Mum called me instead Smile

^^^ i think iv had the same one your parents had. kept getting emails saying that on my last scan so many viruses was picked up and that i needed to up grade to get rid of them as my puter was at risk of crashing but since i ran Roys program i have not recieved it Laughing

@ SkyHook : this is a little off post, but I just came from "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep" and the thread was locked before I could ask this question, But you are still doing it in this thread. the question is ----when did you start to speak like a normal, intelligent human being even if your spelling and typing is atrocious? it is quite a change to be able to read your posts without having to hire an interpreter. @Ghost : My friend, if you are using windows, you should really defrag more often, due to the way windows puts files back. try, at least, once a week. It will help with access speed.

Roycropper - I used that Reg Cleaner - and you don't get functionality unless you pay and it's clearly intended to mislead you into believing it's free.

For that reason alone I wouldn't touch it.

ok from what the geeks have told me in a computer thread on another site you should have..
AVG virus scanner...norton and Mcaffee slow down your system too much and also have problems with other programs.
ad aware
spy bot search and destroy

I also have registry mechanic which is great but not free

and cleanup which is free

Trying to get rid of that nasty thing lost me my pc for the day.

Even after I nearly wrecked everything - the one thing I was left with was the Reg Cleaner. Laughing

It really spooked me when my System Restore wouldn't function - never a good sign.

Either my eyesight has been severely compromised by the hassle or the fonts are all goofed up too. Shocked
